Hi all
have been trying to get a replacement for my philips msx 2 machine, i posted a while back looking for a working machine, but have had no luck so far

I have tried many times to contact bas in the netherlands, but i never get a reply and he has the machine i want for 40 euros.

if anyone has a spare machine and will post to the uk can they let me know?

its a philips vg 8235 that i would want, mainly for cartridges

Bas recently didn't reply to an email of mine after about 8 days, but then I sent another one and he replied. Perhaps he's been really busy, or some emails never arrived. If you send another email he might reply. You'd have to pay an extra €34 or €45 for P&P. I've also been looking for an MSX2 computer, because I never had the chance to buy one years ago after seeing them at a computer show in London. There's another topic about UK based MSX users. I live somewhere in or around London. Whereabouts in the UK are you?

I haven't got any email address for him except the one on his page. It may be that he blocked someone from a similar email address to yours, meaning the domain part after the @ symbol was the same, so perhaps you could try emailing him again from a different email address you already have, or set one up on outlook.com or Gmail. If that doesn't work, he's on these forums. I think his exact name is Repairs-Bas , but if you look round on here you can check. Meanwhile I'll try emailing him to let me know when he has an MSX2 computer in stock of the type I want, as well as to ask if I can pay a deposit in advance to spread the cost. I'll let you know if or when I get a reply from Bas.

Well, I can announce on here now that I've just won a Philips VG8235 MSX2 computer from the Netherlands on eBay! I suppose I should receive it sometime next week. It was listed as 100% working and refurbished, so it should be fine, although of course it doesn't have a separate keyboard like I wanted. It has 256K RAM and 256VRAM, with a replacement double sided disk drive, so that sounds fairly good. Now, instead of using an emulator with a PC type keyboard, I can have the total experience of an MSX2 computer which I was denied in 1986 or 1987 when Philips, Toshiba, etc refused to sell these computers in the UK! Unfortunately, I may have to give up my plans for a couple of nights out, though. Of course, I would like to fit some music upgrades to this computer so it would be a bit like my old CX5M, but I'm not sure how to do this, or what would be compatible with it. Perhaps I need a slot expander.
