Different box design and manual. 50Hz for European, 60Hz for NTSC version, name of the game, menu screen. The ROM is the same but appears different on western or Japanese machines.

Which version do you recommend to take? This game is reminiscent of many good times from many years ago.

Well actually for Nemesis / Gradius the only difference is the manual, as you will see here. I have a set with the English manual for sale. If you are interested you can send me an e-mail. The address is on my profile page.

I have it listed on eBay but you can get it cheaper through msx.org.

If I'm not mistaken, almost all dual-produced (Euro & Jp) Konami ROMs are identical and will run on either Japanese or European hardware. The sole exception I'm aware of is Metal Gear, the Japanese version of which will not run on European machines (due to issues with kana charset, last I heard). Some ROMs are distinct (e.g. Football & Soccer) and never produced outside a region, but will still run on foreign hardware. Yet others change in appearance depending on region of machine (e.g. Vampire Killer).

True, but the packaging differs, like Hamlet said. For Nemesis the packaging is the same as well.
