Trying to look into prices on two games

Hi all,

I'm curious about the following two games: Jagur-5 and Malaya's Treasure.

There's no listing of these on ebay right now. I'm curious about how rare and how pricey they may be.

Thanks in advance for feedback.

I'd love a copy of Malaya's Treasure myself, but have literally never seen one even come up for sale anywhere in the three years I've been collecting for the system. Most Pony Canyon releases seem fairly rare, I've found, as they rarely seem to show up on eBay, and usually command fairly high prices when they do.

Jagur-5 showed up on eBay once over the last three years (cartridge only, though), and I lost the auction for it, unfortunately. I should have bid higher, though, as it only sold for 23.73 euro + shipping, and I definitely would've paid more than that if I weren't being overly frugal at the time.

There are at least 3 copies of Jagur-5 right now on Yahoo Japan. Ranging from 19800 to 30000 Yen.

No copies of Malaya's Treasure though it seems.

Wow! Now I really regret losing that auction. Big difference in price between 23.73 euro (just shy of $30 U.S.) and 19800 yen (just shy of $200 U.S.)!

And normally prices on Yahoo Japan are more reasonable then the crazy prices you often see on ebay. But unless you speak Japanese you need to use a middle-man and obviously get it shipped which negates most of the advantage of shopping in Japan.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'd consider making a bid on the cart only Jagur 5, but I know zero Japanese. If only it'd go up on regular ebay.

Honestly, in my experience, prices on eBay are pretty reasonable... most of the time. There are obviously those few people who try to fleece you on eBay, like the guy who just put up a bunch of MSX auctions asking for several hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars for anything on his list, but as long as you ignore people like that and only bid on auctions that seem like they're asking reasonable prices, you'll find that they are indeed asking reasonable prices, and you won't get ripped off.

Just please, please don't buy that $1300 Contra. Seriously. Wink

Also, you don't need to know Japanese to bid on Japanese auctions -- there are websites out there that will do it for you, if you pay them a fee, as Rderooy noted. They're known as "proxy services," and they tend to be quite reliable. One that I've used in the past is noppin.com, though I've never used that particular one for auctions (more for buying things from regular Japanese marketplaces), so I can't vouch for how good they are under those circumstances. Still, it was a very good site for the marketplace purchases I made!

Thank you both again for the posts

You can rest assured that there's not a snowball's chance in hell I can afford the $1300 Contra!

As for the second hand negotiating services for the game purchasing, I don't think I want the game quite that badly to go that route. That just seems excessive. I think I'd much just rather see how it goes with whether or not a seller eventually lists it on worldwide ebay. I purchase internationally very often, so hopefully sooner or later someone will throw one up on there. Granted, if you've been looking for 3+ now with little luck I may just be in denial. But for the time being, the idea of using a negation/translating service for a game purchase is a little too much for me.

Well, like I said, Jagur-5 did show up on eBay just a few months ago, and sold for a pittance! So it could definitely happen.

Only problem is, I want both of these games for my collection as well, so if either of them DOES ever show up on eBay, IT'S ON. Wink Heheh.
