Hello All,

I never really kenw about this game untill I recently tried out some games I found copied on "normal" tapes, one of the games is Skooter.
I really like this game so i would like to add it to my collection of original games.
On generation-msx I found out that there are a few versions; tape, disk and cartridge, but also on a few compilations.
I'M not looking for the disk version or the compilaton but rather the tape or cartridge version.
Hope someone has this game and is willing to part with it Smile

Thanks!

Did you ever wind up getting this? Because I might know where to find another copy, potentially, if not. I bought the game CIB not too long ago, but found that it wouldn't play on my system (as is often the case with European cassette games, it froze during load), so I sent it to my friend in Japan to try on her system. She may still have it, though it's likely she sold it to a second-hand store in Akihabara by now -- however, even if she did, they may still have it in stock, since I don't think demand is high for this title in Japan.

I think it should work on your system... With some tricks. Which system is it?

It's too late now -- the tape is long gone, on my end. But my system is an FS-A1WX Panasonic MSX2+, unmodified -- so it still has the base 64kb RAM and all that.

And yes, I held down Shift while booting the system. I always do when playing cassette games, but a lot of European cassette games still refuse to load for me. Maybe about 1/3 of the games I try playing will either freeze after a bit of loading, or exit with a data error or something.

Only European games, though. Japanese cassette games work perfectly 100% of the time.

Japanese computers run at 60 Hz, which means 16.7 ms per frame. European computers run at 50 Hz, which is 20 ms per frame. If a European game is vsynced (which I think Skooter is) and relies on that 20 ms to be available, it might cause issues. Try toggling the frequency to 50 Hz with vdp(10)=vdp(10) xor 2 before loading the cassette game, it might help.

Skooter’s a nice game btw Smile.

I figured it was something like that, honestly. But sadly, if that is indeed the reason the game won't load, then I'm kind of screwed at the moment either way, since my TV doesn't support 50 Hz signals -- I'm playing on a modern HDTV, and as with most American HDTVs, it's very strictly NTSC-only, with no support whatsoever for PAL signals (the display becomes a weird auto-scrolling mess when you switch to 50 Hz, unable to be corrected in settings). So until I get myself a CRT or a nice capture device or something, I'm out of luck!

Ah, that’s too bad, one would hope HDTV manufacturers would just use the same internal analog to digital converter across the world, none of my HDTVs care whether the signal is 50 Hz or 60 Hz, but I guess there are territorial differences. You could maybe get a fairly cheap Chinese converter which does support both frequencies…

I already had S kooter but on a normal copied tape and it works fine on my 8220, hb700p and turboR. I even force it to 60hz (It works on 50hz as well) so that shouldn't be the problem I guess. Maybe the tape had some wear?

I don't think so. Generally, if a tape freezes during load, I'll flip it over, rewind, and try again using the data from the opposite side -- and if it loads successfully, or if it fails at a different spot, I'll know the problem was just wear on the tape.

However, in the case of Skooter -- and several other games I've tried -- it freezes at the exact same point in the loading process, regardless of which side of the tape I attempt to load from. And usually, when the problem is freezing, it happens pretty quickly -- maybe only about 15 seconds into the load process. So in cases like that, it seems unlikely it would be worn tape that's causing the problem.

Either way, this is getting pretty off-topic; apologies for that! Please let me know if you want me to try to track down the copy of Skooter I sent to my friend in Japan.
