if you're talking about jailbreaking, well, forget it. I'm not going to. And so are a lot of others.

if the app will contain a filesystem like airshare, then I see possibilities

Well, personally I was biased too. But it turns out that latest version of tools doesn''t break any functionality. None at all. Itunes still work, sync works, appstore still works. Plus you get a powerful portable computer instead of a crippled phone. You can run emulators, You can SSH to your phone. There are webservers, DNS daemons, IRC chat clients, CAM apps to record video, Netshare or PDAnet to use your iPhone as a wifi proxy server to the internet (over umts), VLC media player, Last.fm client, skype calls over umts (modified Fringe by the makers of it!) and so on. Plus it's always possible to do a restore back to normal from iTunes.

Hmm 85 people voted for snes4iPhone last week. I wonder if we get more than that amount of people to vote for MSX.

Man, I got a major headache just from looking at that. :o

Play it like that for one hour and you can count the chickens in the backyard when standing in front of your house.

I guess getting this made available on the jail broken iphones is not so complex.
But, if people are wanting an official one, we could wait and see what else D4E is going to release (should give them feedback and requests.)
Or we could port/develop one, but it would have to be something legal (no official BIOS), and something that is acceptable by Apple. The fact that it could be a development platform could be an issue (BASIC), just like they don't have Flash. And it could offer an alternative (free) way to deploy games (if it can change ROMs) rather than forcing people to buy from the AppStore might also be an issue.
Of course one can make a packaged emulator with just one game, that can easily be altered by yourself to change the ROM. It doesn't even need to say the fact it is MSX based, just package it with a new game you made, and swap it out later. Actually this sort of security issue could be exploited on any emulators, there was an issue with something Hudson released for PSP which could swap out PCE ROMs. Has anyone tried it on iPhone Aleste / Vay (megadrive game available on iPhone)?

Anyway, what are the features that people are expecting?
Releases of individual games packaged?
Or a emulator application where you can use your ROMs?
Purchasing additional games by downloading through the emulator's interface?
Being able to use the BASIC etc?
Being able to distribute your own MSX software to other users?
...

Or we could port/develop one, but it would have to be something legal (no official BIOS), like openMSX or blueMSX with C-BIOS?

and something that is acceptable by Apple. The fact that it could be a development platform could be an issue (BASIC),I can't think of any reason why having MSX-BASIC would be a problem, apart from licensing issues.

just like they don't have Flash. With Flash there have been several security issues in the past and Im pretty sure more will pop up in the future. But I can't imagine that a BASIC program on an MSX-emulator will somehow gain access to the iPhone's address book and start calling all contacts Big smile

And it could offer an alternative (free) way to deploy games (if it can change ROMs) rather than forcing people to buy from the AppStore might also be an issue. Apart from the licensing issues, I don't really see a problem there either. As far as I know, you can offer apps fro close to nothing ($0.99 or so?) If I woud have an iPhone and openMSX or blueMSX would be available in this way, I'd definitely buy & install!

Changing ROMs or disk images for the emulator can't really be a problem either, if the emulator can access the file system - even if it's read-only.

What video was there to see?
Someone playing Aleste on the phone and steering with balancing the phone.
At least, that's what the movie showed until I closed it because I got seasick. Smile

Any more news on this project? Something like blueMSX would be great on the iPhone. Id def pay for it! Would be great if it was bundled with ROMS or if you could purchase them seperately. Also if Konami roms were made available for it on the app store Id be very happy with that!

Companies these days miss alot of tricks when it comes to Retro Gaming! Smile
