You probably already noticed there's a new poll online with the topic 'What kind of games would you prefer to be developed for MSX?'. You can read more about it in this newspost. In this forum topic you can let everybody know what you voted and why. Do you know of some games that could be a useful source of inspiration for MSX developers? Do you think people should not develop certain types of games for MSX (anymore)? And.. as for both the developers as the 'ordinary visitors': what do you think of the poll results so far? :)

I voted platform. IMO there's a huge shortage on MSX on side-scrolling platform games like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Castlevania Symphony of the Night.
MSX2+ makes this possible easily, and otherwise there's always screen 4 (VScreen)

My choice is puzzle games ... but puzzle games with bonus like great labyrinths and some actions (enemies to avoid or to kill)

Some good examples : The Castle, Castle Excellent, Skooter, Stone of Wisdom, Eggerland 1, Eggerland 2

And the best game ....... MAZE OF GALIOUS of course ! Smile Smile Smile

Racing games. Haven't seen any fun racing game since F1 Spirit and Road Fighter Smile

And if it's multi player, even better...

I remember once on the Tilburg fair that someone from Mayhem (could be mistaken about that) showed me a great little demo of a car racing thingy (micro machine like). Was just a demo not a complete game but I wonder if it ever got any further than this demo...

Well, Konami soccer is quite nice... and Match day 2 has nice playability... if someone could put the Konami's gfx with playability from MD2, then we would have the best soccer game MSX can make =)

I for once would love to see an FPS game on MSX... there's a "Doom demo" for spectrum (quite bad, I know), but maybe something like wolfstein...?

But for me MSX needs "ported" games. There are tons of classics that could be made for MSX back then, but only God knows why nobody did them (or did, but the game is lost somewhere and nobody knows about it, like Alteread Beast for once)

Perhaps it would be possible to "colorize" Match Day II like it has been done for "L'abadia del Crimen" or something. Using the same game engine but updating the GFX routines to work on MSX2 (to add colors and decrease sprite flickering)... I have no idea how much work that woud be but could be easier that writing a complete new game.
This could apply to many games in fact.
