Does the C64 *have* an actual community, then, aside from all the people going retro with emulators? Afaik, it's a quite miserable one, everyone 'went over' to Amiga (which scene is quite lively, I believe).

Right?

Yup... The C64 development scene pretty much died out AFAIK... Demo's are still being made, but no games or other decent products.

True, many 'went over' to amiga yet many stayed or used both. IMHO C64 has an very active community. With several quality diskmags, lots of demos (and music & graphics as well) and good new games too (metal warrior 4 for example) + new hardrware (networking card retro replay). www.c64.sk/ if someone happens to be interested in c64 related news.

Btw. I don't think Tulip is going to make any difference for the active community, it's not like there is much business to do :)

why commodore 64 and not amiga?? How many times was commodore almost bankrupted. Im sorry, im not intersted in c64. its better that tulip also invest in msx-revival. special voor europe distrubution like philips before. Who is really waiting for c64 in this centurie??

Even the never produced msx turbo-X of panansonic its better to bring on the market, also the M2 console and in these days DREAMCAST?? So about 10 years later will the dreamcast also on revival with thousand sofware titles? cozz sega supports that not anymore and left many users behind!!

okay the c64 was the biggest sold machine in worldhistory but msx is the most stabel and the most brands who supported the homesystem in the past. of course the most new hardware was always the first on msx system in the past.

About C64 and the C64 scene... This is the latest game: http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=11401

I think that says enough :P

Seriously tho, I've searched for the C64 game (not demo) developing scene, and I haven't found it. It seems to have died out almost completely around the year 2000.

There's not much activity on c64 game development nowadays. The machine has already about 6000 games, so I think that's more than enough. C64 scene is much more demo oriented, and you can except about 2-5new demos released in a month.
And most cases they're very good.
I think that active c64 developers are 25-35 years old "seen-it-all" guys who want push just a little bit more out of their beloved computer. They're still very competitive about who's the best. They don't mind the games so much anymore.

No new games or products for the C64 ? Where have you been hiding!

There are pretty constant developments in the C64 world (I use both Commies & a Spectravideo SV328). The C64 has far more in development, web browsers, GUI's (WiNGS for eg.), hardware projects (not counting the C-One, different story altogether).

I'm in Australia - there are *no* MSX groups here (actually, there never were.....) , on the other hand, there are still Commodore support groups.

The scene is very active & alive - though I'd question 6 million active users. Still, when GEOS was released as "freeware" recently, it scored 47,000 downloads in the first two days - so there's still a lot of C= users around Smile

Maybe you could provide some links to recent C64 games? The projects you mention are all in the 'utility/application' range...

I think it makes more sense to compare C64 to MSX1. And amateurgames against amateurgames.
