cesco... I like Star Soldier R a lot. It's a question of taste. Yes, I know, it lasts 5 minutes, but I can replay it times and times and times...

I have bought it because I was thinking it was a classical shoot-em-up, but it ended up being a "let's see how many ships you can destroy in five minutes" game... I'm not saying that it's a bad game... it's only that IMHO it cannot be defined as a shoot-em-up, at least not by the usual standards

Contra Rebirth is released in Europe as well now. It has a lot of references to Salamander like the Zelos force.

1000 Wii points.

thread revive:

I've only watched the youtube movies (don't have a wii, but I'd almost get one, just for this) but the amount of tribute to the MSX and GameBoy versions of Gradius/Nemesis is almost insane. Smile
Is this a popular game in this community? I'd say it ought to be (for the people that own a wii, that is).

I had the opportunity to play and finish this game. I can say that it is MSX related at many levels.

To start with, the story suggests that this game is a prequel to MSX Gradius 2. The main character is James Burton, who pilots a ship desgined by, funny enough, Doctor Venom! Who is the director of the Gradius Space Agency (he has not yet joined the "dark side" ). Along the game we get some advices from him and, once we have finished it, we get the opportunity to play with a new ship, "a prototype I have just developed" in the words of Venom. Its name: Metalion.

Moreover, many of the musics are from the MSX Gradius games, including some sound effects (the pause song and the power capsule gathering sound seem to be completely identical to those on MSX Gradius 2, for example). And the level design and enemies will be very familiar to MSX gamers as well.

In sum, highly recommended for those MSXers or ex-MSXers having a Wii.
