Hello,

I couldnt made any mods to the HB-F5 because I have not anything in what base it, no service manual, no hardware reference, and before try things that may affect hb-f5 rather leave it like this.

Perhaps this may sound a little crazy, but as I see, my HB-F9s case is a bit crappy, then i checked the HB-F5 case and is an almost perfect, besides that the case is the same than HB-F9s (removing small differences), I have tried placing the hb-f9s components in housing HB-f5 and matches perfect, then I raise the exchange housings but there is a big problem, the most important difference between this two computers is the Keyboard, put the HB-F5 case into HB-F9s hardware is possible but the HB-F9s keyboard does not match where the HB-F5 keyboard is placed, there is important differences between the keyboards. Then the big question will be if There Is a chance to use the HB-F5 keyboard conected to the HB-F9s motherbard, i saw that both keyboards have same number of keyboard pins "1 to 24" in keyboard motherboard.

I suppose that some changes in Hb-F9s roms will be also needed, to be able run the HB-F5 Japanese Keyboard, but the most important thing is to know if this "exchange keyboard" will be possible or not. I mean that maybe more HB-F5 hardware parts are needed (or the HB-F5 hardware keyboard is much hardware different to run with HB-F9s motherboard) to make possible this exchange, besides code hb-f9s roms changes and rewiring hb-f5 keyboard motherboard.

Anyways if anyone could help me will be great, because this way i could use the completly Hb-F5 case into the modded HB-F9s.

PD: The numeric and direction control pads, located in the right not are showed, because are the same thing in both computers.

Regards.

You mentioned a whole bunch of other mods that could be done on the HB-F5. Personally I would wonder whether you'd want to: the HB-F5 is a pretty rare machine, especially in Europe. Therefore it will have some collectors value. Of course that value gets less when machine isn't in original state anymore.

Because it is rare, few of the mods you've suggested will have been done by other HB-F5 owners (or documented), and you don't have the skills to figure out the 'how to' for yourself. Read: the examples you'd need, don't exist. So you'd make it very hard on yourself, and in the process destroy the collectors value this machine may have. All in all that doesn't make sense to me. If you want to mod things so badly, why not start with a machine that's more common / better suited to do such mods on? Question

And no, the 'because I happen to own this HB-F5' only computes if you consider your time worthless... BA-team

Hello RetroTechie, about:

You mentioned a whole bunch of other mods that could be done on the HB-F5

What more I wish is knowing how to do all that mods by myself, but this will be imposible to me if do not have much help, in specially with a machine that no have any service manual or something to learn about it, i learned any things modding the HB-F9s but not so much to try all the HB-F5 mods like the RAM update or others, the only person that really helped me with all my HB-F9s problems was your Retrotechie and another friendly msx user called NYYRIKKI, when i commented that I will not make changes to hb-f5 is because i dont find a way to perform correctly all of the mods with the info that i find, another reason is giving me a little hesitation and always disturb the same people that can help, i know that I am asking is too much newbie information and I would not want to be too heavy with people that ever helps.

Personally I would wonder whether you'd want to: the HB-F5 is a pretty rare machine, especially in Europe. Therefore it will have some collectors value. Of course that value gets less when machine isn't in original state anymore.

Personally, i think that this HB-F5 would have more collector value if the original box was present, what I have so is original Japanese manuals apart from msx, without the original box, i dont think than some collectors might be interested in this msx , anyways I do not think that the price could i get will be too high, like an HB-F9 i think.
I´ll prefer to modding, although that makes it lose its value. The problem is the same, if i dont know how to make the mods, i suppose that I would have to consider the option of selling... i´m not a collector.

I dont find nothing about the HB-F5, i post here with the hope that anyone had info... i tried to search in any japanese webs. I dont want to mod things badly, the above keyboard idea dont destroy nothing part in both computers, only will be an "idea" to use the charming HB-F5 case instead the HB-F9s, both cases are the same (except the keyboard issue), and i dont have plans to destroy or drill nothing of each computer. I do not like quick fixes.

And no, the 'because I happen to own this HB-F5' only computes if you consider your time worthless...

I thought buying this msx enough, but I take chances thinking that the hardware would be similar to HB-F9s, that was my mistake, I rush a little when I was looking to buy a really hb-f9s in good condition because that I have housing quite scratches on surface. It's a shame that there is not much information about this msx because i think is much attractive compared to HB-F9s, I personally like much this computer in black. Well i´ll try to recolect some Japanese info about this computer, hopefully in the future can perform all mods that i want... I hope that.

Regards.
