Ofcourse it can be done If you take the screen 4 colorlimitations into account. You can even do multilayer scrolling easily. Again, check the Deva site.

It can't be done on SCR4. Unless you use sprites for the main player - otherwise, you'll end up with black borders on your character, or even worst: color spill. And still, you won't have that many colors/details for both background and main char, as you can have on scr5.

I'm speaking of YS3 intro demo mainly - several layers of columns, the player walking in front and behind some of them, with several 'birds' flying in the same way... to do that in scr4, you have to compromise a lot.

I'm not saying you can't do background parallax scroll on sc4 - of course it can be done. Even on sc2, sc1 and sc0 for that matter. But if you also must do the player - not as a sprite - then things get complicated, and the graphic will suffer Tongue

I'm really impressed with the large number of games made in screen 4.

I have been thinking about that: could be possible to make an space manbow for msx1?

The challenge would not be to do the same game, but one of "similar" graphical quality and, of course with no smooth scrolling.

This is an screenshot of the game, with the MSX1 palete (This is a very quick test. Maybe some pixels are in the original color or without respecting the limitation of two colors for block of 8 points)

You'd be better off creating something from scratch for the MSX1 palette and sprite capabilities than trying to convert an MSX2-specific title, I think. Certainly you can get fairly good-looking games with just the TMS9918, though - just look at the Gradius games.

If you can pull it off though with even the smooth scrolling. You will be a legend.
