Yeah, kind of lines up with my advice to him: postponing only hurts himself more.
But I have the feeling he interprets this as an insult somehow. :/

I read that little drama... I think the best is to leave it alone for a while.
Seems that talking more isn't gonna help the slightest anyway, so it doesn't hurt to gamble that talking less will.

Go play some Yathzee instead =)

Ooops, I just went and reacted anyway vz.iminent.com/vz/2f70f7df-6f69-481d-907f-49941c62888e/2/cute-squirrel-blushing.gif ...

Dunno, just allergic to "MRC = TEH EVIL!!!!!11" bullshit, since I feel personally attacked by that as well. I'm not teh evil. Didn't change my username for nothing, right? ;)

MRC is not evil. There's been issues in the past however, but I never really found out all the details. I was once stupid enough to make a comment based on assumptions, but right now I'd just rather let those things rest and I'd advice others as well to "get over with it". I know the particular issue in THIS post is more recent, but the same might apply.

It's the kind of stuff that makes guys like me want to quit it all.

All I can say is this: The negativity, lies and accusations of MRC already destroyed so much…
All that time I thought that I was doing something useful and worthwhile for the computer system I loved so much for my entire life. I thought to be a supporting part of a community formed by its users and fans who still love it like I do, and who contribute as well by producing stuff and helping others just because they love it.

But no. Apparently, all this time, I've been part of a negative, lying and accusational organisation which destroys so much things.
What did they destroy? I have no idea, but it's written down so it must be true, right?
I'm so sorry guys! I just wanted to help!

So what is making me want to quit? What is "destroying so much things", such as my motivation? Sure as hell it's not MRC.

AFAIK (warning: partly informed) MRC negativity is largely based on Bazix influence. A lot of people in the (Dutch) MSX community didn't like Bazix' plans. Since lots of the staff of Bazix was also involved in MRC, 1+1=2

And now I have to go again for a while.
Don't take what I said too seriously, it's just that this kind of thing really pisses me off at the moment so I should just better not read those things and not meddle in it.
See you later.

EDIT: Well Bazix is gone so they can all be happy happy joy joy and move on.
(and try to create something like that themselves, putting their own time, effort and money in it, and then see what great fun it is to see others shitting all over it because they don't 'like' it)

I still have very mixed feelings about that whole situation as well. Personally I liked Woomb, for example, but it's not that strange that it didn't take off; with the DRM restrictions (IMO perfectly normal in itself with the modern ways of distribution), the MSX community wasn't the target audience, so who was? No-one.

Well, in that light (but we're getting really off topic here), WOOMB was intended to become more of a general retro platform (with the amount of titles and systems along the lines of it's mother-project EGG) that almost-but-not-quite partnered up with an interesting US-based gaming platform and
was intended to bring games to mobile phones as well. Needless to say, things got complicated and shit hit the fan before we could make things work and eventually we failed miserably in achieving all these goals.

The whole Bazix/MRC thing has always annoyed me, but in hindsight I understand it a bit more. To me, at the time, it felt like many people seemed to (deliberately) forget that Bazix was a group of MSX fans that had a great love for MSX running through their veins that was working on this unique opportunity. Not some investment company that bought the Commodore name just to make Vic-20 MP3 players. Due to my absurd activity on MRC, people also seemed to forget that even in those days MRC was a group effort.

Ahwell... things have changed now...

If I recall correctly, the DRM was a requirement from the companies involved (Compile/Aiky/whatever_they_are, Micro Cabin etc.). And I *can* also vividly imagine Sonic_aka_T's forum reaction which was something along the lines of "if I ever find a cracked version of Woomb's Xak1 English, I'll stop reverse engineering/translating such games", hinting to what happens with unprotected games. It's somewhere here on the forum, dunno where, can't be bothered to look for it.

Looking back to it, I think the intentions were good. These re-releases were the starting point of a potentially bigger plan, but alas that didn't happen. The only thing which went 'wrong' (imho) was the format of the re-releases. If you look at how MSXdev entries are (sometimes) sold: box, cartridge, manual.. that's what people like. At some point I also suggested such physical things to Bazix, but it wasn't an option. And yes, such scene releases will be cracked and copied.. I've read about a crack for the Woomb Xak too, enabling it to be played on a real MSX. Bottom line: nothing's sacred! Anyway, there's a difference between not believing in a certain system and attacking it, and the people behind it, and the related website of those people (which is www.msx.org in this case) for that.
