I was just wondering as you were talking about the motivation of Ramones/Kralizec as you were involved with Kralizec.

Hahaha... ok Big smile

Well, being a friend gives you a rough estimate of how crowded is their fan base Wink

It is logical for the MSX comunity that users make software with his favorites characters without licenses, because we have in the heart the names of Pentaro, Metal Gear, Goonies and many others.

You can find a very extensive sofware on MSX with this characters, I think is very good for the MSX comunity.

No I am involved on 3 original MSX games and I not thinking of make me rich with the cartridge sells, but I do not like the people that think on no buy the games and pirate all the games.

Every production of Kralizec is great; he puts a lot of time and effort into it and I enjoy playing his games.

It's so funny that the debate (and the hypocrisy) is always the same.

C'mon, we all have large rom collections, don't try to "play saint" and say otherwise.
Even people who are blasting against mars2000you probably already have a copy of the Goonies game without buying the cartridge.

Personally, I don't care about it at all.
I don't care if you make a game with copyrighted material without paying for it (oh, but it is a fan-project, well, a fan-project that I sell) or a compilation of games or whatever other product. Just go for it.

I don't care if someone makes a rom dump and somebody else cracks the protection of it.
It will happen some time. It's sad, it happens. Face it.

I care about silly policies on websites (and on people's minds) that disable any information "considered" warez, but support and advertise products that, in their core, are just as "pirate" as what thoses policies are against.

But then people will come foward and make speeches about this "MSX scene" and the authors and blah, blah, blah...

And there's the hypocrisy: what applies to the "cosy little MSX scene" doesn't really go for anything else, as long as you can sell your product, apparently...

cidra: whatever the message of your essay may be: this is what happened today, and it's exactly what shouldn't have happened. One could dive into the legal issues of downloading ROM files from large commercial companies, and I'm not saying that downloading all those ROM files is really justified now that they're all stone age, but I don't think Konami closes its doors if someone downloads nemesis2.rom from somewhere.

Some people from the scene really wish to accomplish something, like a game on a cartridge, maybe with an SCC added, or some other special chip.. or some fancy booklet or box, with fancy artwork and a hologram label.. who knows. Such things cost money, and to have a bit of a buffer for the next game it's not strange that people want to make a few dimes for that reason. If even those few dimes are becoming a thing of the past there're only two options left: 1) crowdsourcing, where the developer gets a fixed sum if x games have been sold prior to any development, and 2) no activities anymore whatsoever.
Both options are not very fruitful I think..

So, if you want to see new games on cartridges, or perhaps even new cartridge games with something extra inside, just don't ruin the mood in the scene by spreading ways to circumvent copy protections. If you can't stick to that moral rule: buzz off and stay away.

It's a shame what happened today. I was lucky enough to order Bomb Jack and Majikazo a few days ago. (So the situation that everbody who wanted bought it allready is certainly not true.). Still it's a shame that these products are no longer available for other folks.
I seriously hope that Kralizec at least reconsiders the denying of distributions of msx cartridgeshop.

@wolf_: About people from the scene trying to accomplish something, I understand and support that. But we start by assuming all these people are intelligent and smart, not naive, and know that this kind of thing might happen (and most likely will).

About Kralizec closing doors, we've seen many other "drama queen" moments before.
People saying "this is it," "enough", "I'm leaving the scene"...and then coming back some time later.
And if they don't, so be it. I respect that decision, although I consider it rather childish.

Don't get me wrong,
I'm a programmer in "real life", we deal with piracy all the time, I know the effort you have to put to create something (even more for a game).
Of course we all want new things for MSX.
As I said before, I don't care if someone wants to make money, I don't care about copyrights in a fan-project, for a dead system.
Go for it, create, be happy.

But this is a hobby. Don't go for the drama. Or we can dramatize the other way around.
We're not gonna die if Kralizec or somebody else closes doors. People from Kralizec are not gonna die.
And, surprise, we're not gonna die if the entire MSX scene decides to quit.
We're not gonna die if MSX vanishes from Earth entirely.

Do we want that? Most certainly not.
But don't take it so seriously.

However, if someone decides to take it seriously, making money and so on, they must be aware that they will face the same issues as anything else, including piracy and copyright issues, if someone wants to go into that again.
That's the whole point of my previous "essay": let's not be hypocritical and pretend that what applies to the real world doesn't go for the MSX scene.

Now, don't come to me pointing finger and saying "don't ruin the mood" or "if you can't stick to that moral rule".
First of all, I didn't spread any "ways to circumvent copy protections" here (although I don't see such an unforgivable sin of mars2000you part by doing that).

And it's sad to read something like "buzz off and stay away".
Although I don't agree entirely with the "moral rules", I go by then, never posted anything "immoral" here (links, dumps, cracks, whatever).
But if someone presents a different opinion, then people behave like "love it or leave it".
A bit extremist to me...and childish...
