Uridium is being ported to Oric and it simply avoids fine pix scrolling, only char scroll, with nice results!

I think Uridium could be done fairly decently in Screen 4 but then why go through the trouble of doing it and not using V9958 to get something better looking (could be closer to Uridium 2 on the Amiga)?

Not worth porting a completely unplayable scrolling demo game anyway Smile

I'm with you on that one. I like the look and speed of the game but once I played it I wondered what why on earth was that game well rated. To me it let me cold like all other non Japanese shooters (including Xenon) with the exception of Defender.

But like someone else said, it does not have to be a 1 - 1 port and the gameplay could also be improved in the process.

Why not make an original game in stead of a port?

Yay for original game ideas! A port will never be as good as the original, usually... although some porting events are quite cool Smile On the other hand: if you enjoy porting a game, by all means, go for it. It's all about the fun Smile

Yesterday I've been playing Uridium on C64 for a while (VICE emulator is great).
I agree with Magoo about the general feeling of coldness, Konami games and in general Japanese shooters have something imaginific in them (the intro, the variation on the levels, the humor ...)
Anyway, after the initial disappointment, I have found that this game has its addictiveness.
The game is quite repetitive in the graphic and in the gameplay: there are small graphic differences across the levels and the sole real thing that changes (making the game harder and harder) is the position of obstacles on the background and the frequency of assaults. But the game mechanic is somehow hypnotic: the repetition of the assaults of the enemies and the inertia in the movements keep high the tension in the player. IMHO the addictiveness here comes exactly from the continuous repetition of this high tension moments that force the player to keep his nerve.
Probably you are right when you say this game has been used as a sort of scrolling demo to show off the c64 HW capabilities compared to the computer of that time, but actually the game has some appeal by itself.
In conclusion, it is something very different and far from the mainstream msx games, but never the less, a game it is worth playing.

@ARTRAG: With some, warm, graphics changes, good music and some gameplay changes this game can be SO much better.

Would be great to have newer enemies, interesting enemy ai and power ups when progressing through the game. Current enemies (flying) are there only to confuse and make sure you lose some lives.

The idea of the game is good. It just needs some atmosphere.

I'll be honest, I only spent like 2 minutes on Uridium and that was a while ago.
Doesn't Desolator have a bit of that Gameplay on the MSX (using a side view instead of top view) but had the same game mechanics overal.
