I just uploaded 1.3 release candidate 6. Please test it!

If there are no more important issues I will release 1.3 final very soon (aiming for sunday).

Changes:

  • New timer: 1130 Hz if a MoonSound or OPL3 is present.
  • Pass wave select enable flag for limited OPL2 support.

Additionally a number of reports were investigated:

  • Carnivore2 + MMM issue reported by Pencioner → Solution: Upgrade to latest Carnivore2 firmware.
  • DalSoRi R2 issue reported by Avkooi → Solution: Erase with FFs (unflashed state) rather than 00s.
  • GR8NET Stereo SCC+ issue reported by Avkooi → Can not reproduce.
  • PlaySoniq issue reported by alexito → Can not reproduce.
  • A high pitch in Bombaman - Flooded Greek Gardens reported by Hydragon → Can not reproduce.
  • An issue with CTRL-STOP causing pausing behaviour reported by l_oliveira → Can not reproduce.

For the issues marked “can not reproduce”, reproduction steps are very welcome, however they will not block the release of VGMPlay 1.3 anymore.

Hi Grauw, tested it and did not found any issues until now, works great! Tested with MFR in primary and PlaySoniq, OPM and DalSoRi R2 in a slot expander, also with GR8NET in primary (that just doesn't like my slot expander at all together with it).

Only thing i noticed is that the DalSoRi is only detected as DalSoRi R2 when playing OPL4, for OPL3 it's detected as Moonsound (both in primary and subslot). Not really an issue i think, probably due to a different detection routine, and the additional wave memory is not needed anyway.

Hi ToriHino, thanks for testing so thoroughly! That’s really helpful.

About the DalSoRi R2 detection only happening when playing OPL4 music, indeed that is the case. I’ll change it, because it might be a bit confusing like this, leading to reports about the DSR R2 not being detected properly. Thanks for that feedback!

Cool stuff! this made me buy a few extra soundcards just to play musicSmile
But I was wondering: Gem (the gameboy emulator by TNI) did some good work emulating the sound, althought I never really got it working at normal speed, it does sound good!
Its using the psg and scc to recreate the sound of the gameboy pretty well, would that be a possibility in the future as well in vgmplay?
There are some cool gameboy vgm's out there Smile

Hi Moniz, thanks, good to hear!

I made a new ticket for the Gameboy in the issue tracker. I thought I had one already but nope :).

I tried a Master system music (PSG) with 30 kb using VGMPLAY 1.3 and openMSX (TURBO-R GT emulation, 0.16.0). It says "not enough memory". The file has 30 kb (it is uncompressed).

Is that supposed to happen ?

If the file is not compressed and 30k in size, it should only need 16k of free memory in addition to the 64k TPA. Since the turboR GT has 336k memory free in DOS2 with command2.44 according to mem.com, there should be plenty of space to load and run the music.

You could email me the music file (or tell me which one it is) and I can test it myself…

I believe I just found out what the problem was, thanks. I was using DOS2 2.20. When I upgraded to a newer version, it worked. Smile
