An employee of a commercial business could care less if his work gets pirated, as long as his job keeps on existing. A hobbyist in a marginal scene who gets pirated could feel like he and his work are redundant.
I remember how driven I felt in the 90s when 200 people bought (BOUGHT!) our first music disk on a fair. Now it's shown interrest that keeps me going. If that's gone I keep my stuff for myself.

I could not have expressed it better, and I think that is exactly what eveyone mean.

IMHO the problem occurs when ppl try to make money out of a hobby.

Is not for money, is more related with feeling of something real, appreciation of your work, in other words, that it is worth and is time spent and not wasted.

That's exactly the idea. If you feel that your work is not apreciated, you are not going to waste time doing a game instead of playing games or watching a movie.

And that means less and less to pirate for the leaches... In fact killing their own hobby...
One would think that the guys who know their way around protections and how to rip a ROM from a cartridge should have at least some brains, but clearly they don't...

I agree with MSXPro here. Most MSX-ers people I know personally (that's quite some folks) just buy the stuff they want nowadays, and they don't care if it's available illegally. And please folks don't go argue with the new troll of heitor barcellos.

I see some reactivated accounts with no activity since 2005, until last week. Curiously. If you feel offended, please hit the moderator alert button instead of taking the bait. If valid, I will personally send the baddies to dev/null Wink

and indie musicians that are used to release their music for free, also sell cool stuff like this, that people would love collecting - http://indiecassettes.tumblr.com/ - why not doing the same? ;)
