The 4MB issue software was tested in openMSX.

What 4MB issue? Like grauw and I said. We only have seen it with UR. I would patch software that is wrong, not blame the hw Tongue

Ok, as it seems there are quite many people who really know their stuff regarding this matter, it's getting really interesting to envision what could be accomplished Smile

As the only real possible way for me to "participate" in this kind of an attempt is to gather/source information that *could* somehow help here, here goes for nothing:

This kind of "kit" has been used to work together with z80:

https://hackaday.io/project/15942-z80-single-board-computer-...

Another project regarding a z80 and avr here (programmable wait state generator):

I really don't know if this is even related to the this thread here, but I guess this won't hurt anyway oO It's rough to be enthusiastic about a matter you lack sufficient knowledge of :P

Well, like I said, there's more software that goes bananas with 4MB... That Grouw and you only saw a deviation in UR's mem-counter doesn't mean that's the only software suffering.
I agree not to blame the hardware but the software. But choosing to have little less RAM and be rid of the problem saves quite some time.
It's not like all coders are lining up when there's a request to fix a piece of software which turns out not to work (properly) in one of many uncommon situations. Wink

I'll remember this when I run into it again. As said, it's a little while ago and I tested all my DSK files in little less than two months time. Can't remember the culprit, but the 4MB expansion goes in permanently now Tongue

Hehe, good! Smile

My problem is that I’ve heard so often now the advice "don’t make or buy 4 MB expansions", with software compatibility as an argument, while I only know of 1 case, you maybe know a second, but instead of fixing those very few cases (or at least simply knowing which they are), instead people advice against something which is a pretty neat and fully standard memory expansion.

Also if we don’t know what the software is, we can not verify if indeed the memory amount is the problem, or perhaps, the slot it was in, whether there were other contributing factors, or whether you simply forgot to press CTRL the first time you ran it with 4 MB. I’m not saying that you did, but we don’t know, so the legend continues.

(Sorry for the off-topic btw ;p)

It was a emulated 8255 with expansion 4MB selected. No clue where that goes. CTRL was not an issue. I removed the 4MB and all was fine.
Damn how I hate it that I just took that instance for granted and forgot about it.
