Hub is a package manager from MSXHUB.com You can install, remove and update packages (like yum). Musicpac is a very large package, which downloads and saves a lot of files on the system. I use a GT, with a GR8NET and Carnivore 2. My GT is just a standard machine with 512K.

I think the problem is not in my Carnivore 2. I also tested it with an ST, same issue. And when I use a Sunrise IDE, the same problem happens... So, that leads me to the conclusion that the problem is not located in the Carnivore 2...

No one else has reported testing the 2.50 since my last request. Looks like 2.50 is going to be released without too much public testing...

!IMPORTANT!

Due to the broken logistics and sanctions against Russia, RBSC is no longer able to sell Carnivore2 cartridges outside of Russia. There will be no more cartridge sales from our Russian distributor (SuperMax) until the situation gets back to normal.

Meanwhile, you can still buy Carnivore2 cartridges from our European or Taiwanese authorized manufacturers and distributors. Besides, we have recently authorized HobbyRetro to produce and sell Carnivore2. You can find the sales page here:

So the beta 3 is the final now?

Yes, we haven't found any problems on our own, but at the same time we haven't got too much feedback either. So I am not going to update the repository with the new version until our manufacturers confirm that everything is working correctly.

We are making available the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) version of Carnivore2 files v2.50 for final testing. The files are available from here:

https://rbsc.su/files/Carnivore2_v250_BetaTesting_004.zip
https://rbsc.su/files/Carnivore2_v250_BetaTesting_004.txt

Compared to RC 003 release the following changes were made:

  • The FPGA firmware was fixed to resolve Nextor freezing problem when certain cartridges were present in other slots
  • Added Nextor BIOS v2.1.1 Beta 2 with disabled Slave detection
  • Updated Carnivore2.rom for OpenMSX with the latest version of Boot Menu

Also, it's quite likely that the changes in the FPGA firmware resolved compatibility issues of Carnivore2 with various CF cards - but this needs to be confirmed by you!

We kindly ask you to test this release as it possibly addresses the old problem that caused incorrect functioning of Carnivore2 with various CF cards. Thanks in advance.

The v2.50 files for Carnivore2 have been released into the RBSC's GitHub repository: https://github.com/RBSC/Carnivore2

You can find the changelog below.

Required updates: FPGA firmware, IDE BIOS, Boot Menu, all utilities.

- The CF timings were adjusted in the FPGA firmware - this seriously improved the stability and compatibility with various CF cards
- User-configurable port (#F0, #F1 and #F2) for Carnivore2 identification and controlling was added to the Configuration menu
- The configuration screen allows to set the ID port's auto-selection mode (the port is selected based on the slot's number to avoid conflicts)
- Dual-PSG support was added; when enabled in the PSG menu, Carnivore2's PSG is configured to work on ports #10-#11
- Adjustable autostart delay with possibility to skip the startup message (when 0 is set) was added
- Special Nextor 2.1.1 Beta 2 BIOS with disabled slave support was added as the default IDE BIOS
- Original Nextor 2.1.0 BIOSes (Release) with different IDE driver versions were added as optional
- Original (Japanese) FMPAC BIOS was added as optional BIOS
- C2IDETST now supports command lines switches: drive letter and number of iterations
- The layout of palette controls was changed in the Configuration menu
- Carnivore2 may now work in slot 3 if this option is enabled in the Configuration menu (some restrictions may apply)
- High resolution cartridge labels were added into the repository
- A few new RCP files were added into the repository
- FMPAC drums volume fix was added; thanks to Uniskie (Japan)
- Fixed the starting segment number for page 1 in both ASCII mappers for better compatibility with ASCII ROMs
- Fixed the bug in C2RAMLDR: the loaded RCP entries were incorrectly adjusted before writing into the directory
- The hardware interceptor was removed from the firmware; the 3 registers at offset #25-#27
- Alternative background music was added in the BOOTCMFC.ALT file
- New utility C2FINDER was created to identify Carnivore1 and Carnivore2 in a system using two different methods
- Fixed a bug in Boot Menu that prevented the second/third Carnivore2 properly reading the configuration settings
- Fixed a bug in Boot Menu - Arabic/Korean warning was shown twice during boot
- Fixed a bug in Boot Menu - alert messages were shown on top of title screen if Dual-Reset was not active
- The Boot Menu restores the original screen and its colors when exiting
- There are 2 additional files for OpenMSX to assign Carnivore2 to slot 1 or 2 (or both - you can use two Carnivore2 now)

I was not able to test the new firmware till this week. Sorry for that. We are having a lot of problems with supply chains, shipping delays, price fluctuation...

In any case, I found I dont get any SCC sound when running the Carnivore on SX2/SMX machines. It works fine with SX1/OCM though. I tested Space Manbow for instance.

I dont know if this is a bug, or perhaps there is now an additional step to get SCC working on some machines...

Cheers!
Daniel
