Hyper Sports 3: How many releases were there. Is mine a rarity?

Hi...

Out of curiosity I've just came accros a very strange situation: I've discovered that there are silly Hyper Sports 3 "distributions". I wouldn't say they are the typical EU/JP editions pairs, but something sillier:

The 3 original editions I've found are:

1.- "White/Green" box, "goonies design with white green stripes" cartridge inside.
2.- Orange + dark blue box, "orange bottom, orange letters on top" cartridge. (typical konami's ping pong orange series)
3.- (mine!) White/Green box outside + orange catridge inside.

Why does edition number 3 exist? It's a silly mix of the 2. It's 100% original, it came with my Toshiba HX-20 when I bought it, 34 years ago... but so strange altogether...

Lurking around ebay/wallapop I've checked that there are some other people with my "mixed design" edition, but MANY less than the expected "modern" "all white + green" (1) or "old" "all blue and orange", where contents and box match.

Why do I have such a rarity! WTF! Smile

Do you have pictures of versions other than these?

Yep, as I explained in case 3 my box is white green, but the cartridge is orange and blue (silly mix).
Instructions and everything are universal multi language, no printed Japanese anywhere.

I can take pics if needed but you can imagine the described mix perfectly.

I think it's a strange mix. If I didn't know better I would say someone mixed the two together to sell it as whole, but like you said it is 100% Original, so this is not the case.

Speaking of Hyper sports 3, when you place all konamis chronological (on RC numnber) on a shelf, Hyper rally and Hyper sports 3 are the odd ones. In the japanese version they have the orange/blue design, but in the european versions they have the white/stripped design. I guess they where released later in Europe and wanted to fit them in the already white/stripped design?

I've found some user (not me) selling my exact "mixed" version on some internet second hand portal also Smile

So, "it exists", and it's just a small mistery. Explanation is probably that one: they got caught in the middle of the new desing transition and first copies sent to Europe were "mixed". It's probably as silly as that :)

PS: I'm seeing SUCH SILLY AND ABSURDLY HIGH PRICES for MSX stuff on that second hand portal... What's wrong with people?

Yep, the cartridge seems to be the orange Japanese version, with the katakana subtitle below the English one, on the label... But the box (and instructions booklet) are the "international" ones...

Next to the high prices, why does it look like most msx 1 konami boxes have been cut to fit into a videotape box??

Haha, didn't realize... Such a cheap and tacky solution (if you don't have the original box)... Better selling just the cartridge in this case...

Amazingly, Hyper Rally is REALLY old (RC718 !! first game of 1985), and even though they re-released it in "European coloured stripped format". None of the games around Hyper Rally (in terms of RC number) were reissued with the European format... (So Hyper Rally is a rarity but for different reasons on its own Smile )

OTOH, Hyper Sports 3 was probably the last game having an "orange-blue" Japanese release, so: its "all Japanese", "all European", and "mixed japanese European" relesases might make a bit of sense "somewhat".

Then, from Goonies and beyond (RC734+), Konami discarded the orange/blue format altogether.
