Knight mare gold proves this...

Knightmare gold is hardly what I'd call "little effort".

Fleet Commander was "improved" in turboR, at least it used PCM. Some other KOEI games are faster in turboR (maybe taking profit of the internal RAM?).

Pleasure Hearts was improved for MSX2+ (or at least turboR).

And if memory serves me well, you could load Midgarts in MSX2... Tongue

There are many other games which will improve in better MSX models, we just have to think about them. Smile

Blinky Scary School does more or less that, look at the screenshots and you'll see that the "all white" ghost on MSX1 gets "red shoes" on MSX2 or above ;)

what about the cpu speed difference?
I noticed quite some games on msx2 getting slow when the screen becomes filled with enemies (undeadline, salamander. etc. etc.).
Do those kinda games run more smooth on an msx2+/tr (because of the cpu speed difference)
Question

are there games that run more smooth on a msx2+/tr compared to a normal msx2 ?

Starship Rendezvous has scrolling on a MSX2+

an MSX2+ has the same CPU as an MSX2.

Question

Could it be that those msx2 games you are reffering to are actually versions of hacked megaroms?Example some 128kbyte megaroms when transfered to disk (nemesis, metal gear) etc seem to play slower than the versions on cartridge. After using the dissasembler on bluemsx i found out that the reason is one:Transfer and usage of unused vram as a temporary storage ram.Metal gear 1 (cracked by sma international) is a typical example, the game is slowed down a little bit because pages are used from vram as temporary storage. So transfer from vram to ram creates a small bottleneck on the performance of the game.

On a real msx and on emulators if you plug the cartridge in you may see the difference (although it is not that big i could understand it).Actually the only way to play those megaroms on 128kbyte memory mapper machines is this.Only if the vram is used as a temporary storage can the msx execute the games.

Now on your second question i doubt that the cpu makes much of a difference,it is probably the 9958 chipset that could do something better, and of course the fact that a few konami titles took advantage of this (space manbow comes to my mind)

Kyokugen is a game which's speed is drastically increased when played on a turbo R instead of a 2/2+. You need to select the r800 cpu in the config menu.

Also Meteorite Kiss is a game in which the r800 cpu can be selected.
