Yeah, SD mapper price should be 1/3 to 1/2 of a Carnivore2.

60 euros at 8bits4ever https://www.8bits4ever.net/product-page/sd-512
seems like a fine price to me. I wanted to get one but it was sold out again.
For me it is good to use in a slotexpander/standalone

because i already have "real" fmpac/scc/music module so i just want an sd card reader
(note I also have carnivore2 and megaflashrom sd)

Machines with less than 128k will need the 512KB on-board RAM ACTIVE and the MAPPER function selected, otherwise the interface will work in MSXDOS1 mode with limited functionality.

I think this applies to your MSX1 machine, be cautious. In MSXDOS1 mode you can only store 112 files on the SD card without subdirectories.

SD Mapper has 512kb and Nextor so no problem for it:
"It features 512KB RAM on-board which can be used as a MEMORY MAPPER (RAM expansion) or as MEGA-RAM (to load ROM games on it).
The cartdrige uses the NEXTOR kernel to access the storage media. It supports FAT12 and FAT16 partitions."

The main problem is the lack of SCC, you are going to lose all Konami SCC games.

The problem is that you can't use the MegaRAM with Nextor together.

For the Spectravideo 728, if want to have SCC support, will Carvivore 2 or MegaFlashROM SCC 512kB work good with it? Or is the 64kB RAM a bottleneck? I'm likely gonna use SofaRun with it.

Nextor will use the RAM in the MFR or Carnivore2 so you will have no limitations in that aspect. One issue to consider is audio mixing. I’ve not had the 728 myself but I have had 318, 328 and 738 models. All had bad mixers and cartridge audio was not balanced with the internal PSG. The Carnivore2 is at an advantage here as it can emulate also your PSG and key click and has a separate audio out, so you can bypass the mixer inside the SVI.

I can confirm the 728 has the same mixer problem. It should be fixable by replacing a resistor, but I haven't had the time yet to fix mine. Also, I have read contradictory information on what the resistor value should be.

Nice to know, thanks. Yes I have read about those audio problems on 728/738. Resistor fix should do it. Not sure if that has already done on my 728.

Just to be sure I understand. I can buy Carnivore 2 and it will allow me to run MSX2 games on my MSX1?
