If you're going to use your MSX in every nook and cranny, a Carnivore2 or MFR will never be enough. Multifunction cartridges will never have enough functions. Me, I prefer to be able to change my cartridges to adapt my configuration to my use. A slot expander is more interesting but it takes up more space. A mix would be even more interesting.

@gdx But then there is the question of the cost. The multifunction cartridges are cheap if you consider the combined cost of a slot expander and the individual cartridges for sound, memory, storage, etc.

Multifunction cartridges are cheaper until we want use missing functions, more memory or new/old cartridges.

The SX1 Mini seems the best bet for me.

I didn't even know of its existence nor what it was, thanks to all that helped!

The SX1 Mini seems to have more problems than other OCMs because it has been simplified to the utmost. (I'm not necessarily talking about flaws)
But I agree it's a good little machine even if I still prefer a real MSX + a multifunction cartridge.
The ideal would be a slot expansion (2x) with a memory mapper and an integrated SD interface. It does not require a long development therefore fewer potential defects and that should not be expensive.

Well spoken gdx. this is exactly what a MSX is meant to me: Make the configuration you need on the fly, not have the perfect machine with all extensions build in.

Isn't this the beauty of MSX nowadays? There are many possibilities to achieve more or less the same result. So everyone can pick what works best for them.

Completely agree, years ago we didn't have so many options. FPGAs for me have been a real discovery since I use them.
