1) Just wanted to ask how many of you have been loyal to MSX and bought NEW cartridge games since the very first one, Ink? And what cartridges you have bought?

2) As nowadays most of new cartridge games can be freely downloaded as .rom files to test play them first on your pc, it probably affects to the sales of actual cartridges. (I have already .rom file for my emulator, don´t need to pay for cartridge)

If there wasn´t any downloadable files of new cartridge games in the websites, like in the old days not every software shop had msx for test play games before buying, or you haven´t played it at your msx-freak friend or at some fair already, so what new cartridges you would had bought by just seeing it´s box cover picture and/or one or two still screenshots in some msxwebshop? Smile

My own answers are:

1) Just bought my first ones in last month, BETILED! and MONTEZUMA´S REVENGE. They were the first ones that impressed my adult gaming taste enough. Smile

2) Ink, Phantomas Saga Infinity, Montezuma´s Revenge, Malaika Prehistoric Quest and maybe that Betiled! as I have played it´s PC variations for years Smile

1) I've bought the vast majority of the new cartridges. I really believe that until now they've been cheap and it's a must to motivate programmers to keep working for MSX. About Ink, I'd even buy the tape version before the cart was launched...Smile

2) Um, I believe that none. At least I've always saw a video of real playing.

1) none, I like to make games, I hardly ever play them. I think it's best when I stay out of the collectors area then. Judging that for the first edition of Manbow 2 there were more interested people than that there were copies, I think what could've been my copy -tucked away in a box as I never play games- is now in the hands of someone who does play games.. Tongue

2) I actually think people want a physical game, with a nice box and manual. Why else would people trade original games on eBay for extreme amounts of money when they can just download the game for free from 'there'? So, apart from me, I think most MSX'ers would be interested in buying original games, given that they come as a decent physical product.

1) none. I have some MSX on my attic but I only started it up once. I hardly play games anymore. Just as wolf I only use my MSX trying to create stuff. Once I/we finnish something a cartridge release would be one of our ideals. But earning money is not a factor.

2) The feeling of inserting a cartridge or holding the package gives a different feeling than having a rom somewhere on a computer. A true gamer/collector would prefer the real thing over a rom.

I personaly download all the roms that are available freely. After inspecting and analyzing all aspects (mainly gfx) I leave them alone as I suck at playing games.

I'm with wolf_ Wink

I love making games, playing them... just sometimes; add to that I'm usually broke, I didnt buy any cart yet Tongue

But there are some nuances, I almost bought Manbow2 (even having no money) but I didnt actually liked it enough... I'll wait for the next MSX meeting to see it, since Fudeba bought it - and see if I change my mind Smile

And for playing games, I did play Jungle Hunt, Montezuma's, The Three Dragon Story and <CENSORED> *a lot*, not only for testing purposes Wink

<CENSORED> is not the name of a game, but is something to be revealed in next Jau MSX meeting - after the meeting I'll release both Dr.Hello and Dragon Story for donwload on my site Smile

1) If I remember correctly, I have almost all the Karoshi cartridges, as well as all the MSX Cartridge Shop cartridges, including Caos Begins, and also Stratos and BeTiled!

2) Well, if it's like the old days, I'd read comments on magazines. But it's not old days, cartridges today are extremely cheap and information is easily available on forums, so, it's hard to answer the question. Looking at the new cartridges that are currently available, I think that the 90% of them deserves to be buyed, because they have a good quality.

I'm with wolf_ too... How ever because for some reason I want to see new releases also in the future, I've bought some new cartridges... Actually if I think closely I've bought 6 in this month Tongue (How ever I've also sold most of them)

To be honest I would be more happy for new hardware cartridges than software cartridges... Software is better on HD. Smile It would be nice to buy for example some memory mappers with small size & case and I think most of us still dream about ObsoNET. Smile
