if it was just the game , an msx emulator + the download the game could satisfy anyone.

other point to consider:

lat's forget about the msx tech and difficulties a little.
pick up two very famous games in the same cathegory:

1)duck hunt(nes/famicom)

2)lethal enforcers (segacd/megacd) (it' not the megadrive/sega genesis nor the super nintendo version. it's the segacd version)

looking into duck hunt. i think it's possible to port to the msx2 (or even msx1) very easy.
let's see...hummm... no more than 16 colors, still image of a forest, no vertical/horizontal scrolls, 2 or 3 sprites in the same at the screen(the ducks). very few music. but guess what? a huge sucess, and nintendo wii fans asking for 3d update to this game. no more words.

now, let's see lethal enforcers...humm... yes, i think i could be CARBON COPY ported to the msx standard.
well instead of me saying what it needs to do so, let´s take the msx users a chance to think a little and say this here.

u can considere 2 things to ignore: the vram memory and hardware scroll.

to help a little, 2 images of them:

first, duck hunt.

now lethal enforcers.
http://www.supersega.com/imgs_public/otacar4@ibest.com.br_220314_LETHAL%20ENFORCERS_000.png.jpg

and a you tube video, in the case of those not so familiar with the game:

i will say my opinion regarding the msx after someone says something here.

IMHO we should invest our efforts to do a common project of new, compatible and more powerful MSX for example developing an exclusive web-forum-threadQuestionto obtaining opinions of all users and sets the bases and specs. Into MSX community, there are a lot of valuable and qualified users who can do this task, a project of everyone and for everyone. Difficult? Maybe, but for me is more difficult and unbelievable be here 25 years after.

I only want to know your opinion. Is this task impossible? I'm wrong? Are you agree? What should be the minimum specs needed for you?

Thank you!

@ Salamander2:

I'm afraid that you're a bit late when considering DUCK HUNT. It was already ported to MSX1 in 2004 by Karoshi Corp. Check it here.

Ok. I've been replaying DUCK HUNT for MSX. Maybe an upgraded 16 KB version would be nice Wink

my objetive in the earlier post is to show that using the right tools and creativity, you can clear the gap between duck hunt and lethal enforcers...

lethal enforcers uses only the segagenesis/megadrive technology, and not the extra sega/mega cd effects. you can play the cartridge version, and except for the sound, they play the same. attach more videoram, more speed to the vpd and a mp3 cartridge for the msx 2+ and you can reach with perfection the lethal enforcers for the segacd version. can you see the game running in the msx? the game is so simple but it has so much appeal that's fun to play. cops vs badasses, awesome red audio music, including nice guitar riffs by TAPPY and we have a winner in sales.

the msx need this furious action combination, like it was with gradius, valis, psych world, hydefos, etc.
deep stories with groundbreak gameplay, music, etc. sci-fi action!

we have here so many people with the finest hardware skills, but where are the guys who willl build a team to produce the next original "valis" game? we have a new hardware in the way, but we need to get fresh and original ideias but with impact to help this new hardware get out and sell a lot. we need a organization just to get involved with plot and game design/testing for the msx.

my bet is to poduce games with simple mechanics like lethal enforcers or nam-75 for the neogeo in the new vdp. there is no problem emulating or porting these games to the new chip, but after that, we need to present something new to get rid of emulation. if you want just emulation, you don't need the msx computer, but a pc instead...

hey, do you like tomb raider? imagine a game with a girl like lara, in cabal/weststory style? yeah, she has a nice butt, and nice guns too. but imagine another women, dresses in the same way, but in the city, shooting out criminals robbering a bank, or trying to kill the president? if she gets some shot, she well be wounded and parts of the cloths will fly away... she can use a snipergun in the top of the building to shot the criminals too...imagine if she needs to be dreesed like a chinese prostitute to enter the mafia just to shoot the guys who killed or kidnapped her father? i am not saying that i'm a pervert, but i know it WILL SELL! everybody like a game with simple mechanics, good story, beatifull female, bad looking bosses that want to kill in hundred forms, and a hero with attitude, like duke nukem. one man army or one woman army. like the appeal?

we need to forget the good heroes, and make bad heroes, the ones that eat enemy news in the breakfast, or smile if he has been traped by the enemy. we need good looking chicks in the apocaliptic world that actually don't care about the world, but hers lipstick. it sounds good and interesting to me.

actually i have 4 or 5 ideas of simple shooting, spaceship, action games that could be used in this new vdp. we don't need the ps3 to do great games, i'm trusty that we can compete with this new generation of games only using our creativity. i don't have skills to program a game, but any group or programmer needs a box full of ideias, please contact me in my email. i promise you that tou won't be disappointed.

feel free to get crazy and talk with me.
because msx is greatness with creaziness.
Smile

Sorry, but I totally miss the point. I'm certainly lost. LETHAL ENFORCERS is an original game!!!? I doubt it.
If you have ideas, look for a producer or become one. Find a new programmer, a graphist and a musician and go for it.

but that's exactly my point of view.
you have the hardware, but to use with emulators or some thing like this...?
if the new has this potential, why not create something new, that use the specs of this machine?
i'm really want to try the game director chair only once...
