You gain time with cross assembler if you use emulator also , but if you use real msx for trial you loose time when doing the transfer & iterations.
I d like to have sdcc on real msx !
I would like also to recommend SjASMPlus. It's an excellent compiler and is almost 100% compatible with M80/L80, with a lot of features useful for hacking, like direct patching a binary file. Together with openMSX-debugger, it speeded up a lot my development of the Nemesis-2 smoothscroll and the Salamander Dynamic Vsync patches. These days I wouldn't have enough time code anything else for MSX if it wasn't for this two excellent softwares.

And with the new Nowind interface those transfers are a thing of the past! Best of both worlds I guess.. the speed of the PC, the accuracy of a real MSX.

With a SD card interface the time lost transfering files tends to be minimal.
