Hello there!

I'm trying to complete Metal Gear, by playing 45 mins everey day Big smile
Well, I WAS. Now I just can't play the game well.
I've switched SW5 on my Altera DE1 (think of it as a new 1chipMSX), and now my MSX2+ wanna-be runs at 10Mhz.

Metal Gear is too fast!!! I get caught/killed all the time!! It's like Sonic Gear The Metal!

So...I just can't be switching the SW5 on and off every time I want to play Metal Gear: my Alteda DE1 is inside a custom case, and opening/clossing is not that great.
HOW can I change speed of the game? any CPU-cycles eater around so the game tuns at the right speed??

Thanks!!

45 mins every day? Metal Gear can be easily finished in a run, it takes about 2 hours.

I know, but I get killed every day and I don't see any passwords or savegames...Tongue

I think it can save to tape. Or was that only introduced in MG2?

Only in MG2. Alternatively you could use MG in conjunction with the Game Master to save games.

As far as I've always known you can save to tape in MG.
There was also a cracked version which allowed you to save to disk.

F1 to pause, then F4 to load and F5 to save. To tape in original version. By the way, saving or loading can also be used to have respawning items to respawn immediately. Fast way to get those extra rations Smile It will also disable electric fences by the way.

@konamiman: completing it in 2 hours without cheating would be kinda hard I guess? You manage that WITHOUT cheating?

@ashame, Alex: Metal Gear can save game only to tape. Metal Gear 2 can either save to disk or provide a password (which consist of a nightmare of japanese kana symbols).

@Rataplan: Yes. When I was younger and had free time, I managed to finish Metal Gear in a run, without cheating, a couple of times. And by the way, recently I finished Usas in a run while taking a flight, playing in a netbook with blueMSX (anyway this time I cheated a little: I used the game snapshot feature to go back when I was killed). @Konamiman: There is an IPS patch by BiFi that will allow saving to GameMaster 2 SRAM (which will I believe also allow saving to disk).
