It's for superimposing, just like Philips NMS 8280, but without the digitizing feature.

It seems to feature its own V9938 with VRAM inside. Are you sure it isn't able to digitize?

BTW, what sad bloated design. It could have been done much simples/cheaper if ASCII just had standardized a conector for the colorbus for all MSX>=2 machines.

And, if Panasonic had a bit more creativity, they should have included the ROMs like the NEOS MA-20, so the FS-UV1 could be used as a MSX2 upgrade kit.

Well , I'm not sure, but the Japanese site speaks only about superimposing for this hardware. Maybe someone could translate the main menu of the build-in software ?

Anyway, it's interesting to see that Panasonic has thought about an additionnal VDP with its own 128 Kb VRAM. Maybe to allow temporary stockage in the VRAM(s) as many Japanese MSX2/2+ computers have only 64 Kb RAM ?

There's also a 8 Kb SRAM : http://usbsecretbase.michikusa.jp/fs-uv1/sram.html

If I try to read the English tests below VIDEO TELOPPER on this picture

I can read/guess

- Superimposing function
- Visual Graphic Editor
- Japanese Character Generator

It corresponds probably to the 3 options of the software and the 3rd option explains the presence of a big KANJI rom.
Definitely no any trace of digitizing function !

That thing only need the VIDEO ADC chip (V7030) or equivalent discrete circuitry added to be able to digitize video...

@sd_snatcher a standard Color Bus connector sure would have helped a lot with such add-ons... and a VDP master clock output would have been even better... pity that did not happened.
