Hi,

I recently bought the v9990 powergraph from Brazil.
Upto now I haven't gotten it to work.
I get a rolling screen, when I turn the monitor on. I already bought a VGA-SCART cable, but that doesn't help.

I tried another monitor (same model), but that doesn't help.

Now they suggested that probably the monitor doesn't support NTSC, which of course, could very well be the cause of my problems...

Does anyone know?

And... if so... any recommendation for a (non-expensive) monitor that could be used?

Thanks for any suggestion! Guys from Brazil try to help me, but we're running out of options, so any tips/suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks!

Yes, it works fine via RGB-SCART, not via composite video.

Via composite, the image will be black & white if the colour system doesn’t match, because the colour signal of NTSC is not compatible with PAL. For RGB the only difference is the display frequency of 50 / 60 Hz, and most monitors handle this fine, never seen one that doesn’t.

As evidence, I recently took these photos of my turboR GT @ 60 Hz connected to my VS0080:

Maybe the cable isn’t wired correctly? Or it’s not passing the correct sync signal? What if you put the V9990 in 50 Hz mode? Set bit 3 of register 7 to 1 to select PAL.

I also can't get a stable screen on a Sony KX-14CP1 with an original GFX9000.... As discussed elsewhere. Maybe it's a similar problem?

Ya, my V9000 also don´t work on my KX-14CP1. I thought it's been broken until I connected a different monitor...

Thanks die the info...

@Grauw ... changing settings of the v9990? How do I do that? Is that even possible with this version?

So if I onderstand correctly it should work... mmm... weird.

Cable that I bought is brand new...

Yes, um… I think V9990 can be switched between PAL and NTSC using:

out &h64,7 or 192 : out &h63,inp(&h63) xor 8

Or with some corresponding VDP command in PowerBASIC or G-BASIC for V9990.

Even new cables can have incorrect wiring, as I know from experience :). I have two RGB->SCART cables, one which works on both my CX5MII and my turboR, while the other only works on the CX5MII. E.g. if composite video is input as sync signal, rather than composite sync, some monitors may have trouble with that, perhaps?

The age of the cable is of less importance than whether or not it is the right cable. If it came with the hardware, the seller should know. If it was bought somewhere else, the seller might know. There's a difference there.

I understand... Anyone has any experience buying a cable like that? Which one is good?

Just trial and error buying could get expensive...

I just recently made my own for an original gfx9000. I put the pin layout here.
If you have a multi meter you could check if you have continuity on those pins.

I haven't got a multimeter and to be honest... two left hands as it comes to soldering and such... :-(

Thanks for the info though!
