MegaFlashROM troubles

After a very long time I've tried to use my MegaFlashROM again. I reformatted the my SD card and reinstalled the SD kernel from the latest kernel.dat. When I boot I get the following:

Should this be a backslash? Why do I get the wrong character and how can I change it?

It is because you’re running it on a Japanese machine. Japanese machines replace the backslash with a yen sign, not just on MSX but even today on Windows 10, so it’s completely normal. The characters are identical, it just displays differently, so on a Japanese MSX type ¥ whenever you need to type a \.

Ah, got it. Thanks. But why do I get "Bad command or file name" when I try to run mm (which is the multimente file explorer I guess)?

You need 128Kb of memory as main bank to launch dos2 (Nextor) with subfolders support, without it you cannot access the subfolders "MM" and "BIN" in order to launch Multimente and included utilities.

Hmm... my Sony F1XV says "RAM 64k/V-RAM 128k". Isn't that good enough?

Video memory doesn’t count towards the main memory.

I’m guessing you don’t have the 512K RAM option in your MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD?

p.s. If you haven’t done so already, make sure to check the capacitors on the HIC-1 video daughterboard of the HB-F1XV for leakage.

Thanks for the quick help guys!

I got the one for EUR 99 which is "MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD 1 slot". Could I buy the memory upgrade for that one? Or what would be the easiest way to be able to run multimente and sofarun?

About the capacitors, I think the guy that I bought the machine from has already done that.

That should be possible, there’s a separate option for that in the order form. Of course you probably need to send it back for that. Contact Manual Pazos.

You can use a separate memory mapper, but the one internal in the MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD is the best option imo because then you can keep the second slot free for other extensions.

This is not necessarily the best option. For example if you have/need a slot expander to use a extra sound cartridge + V9990 a day, you can take a larger external mapper. In fact, it depends on the use your MSX.
If you need only FM, the MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD + 512kB is sufficient.
I only give two examples but there are many others for each case.

Just sent it back to Manuel for the upgrade... thanks again for the help!
