NEXTOR + GR8NET seem to work, but after launching certain programs, returning to DOS2, gives "command.com not found".Why?

Hi all

I've been happily using GR8NET for many months, and I finally got the maximum juice from it when I configured my SD card as FAT12 (or was it 16?) to be able to boot NEXTOR using CALL NETSETMAP(24) (This boots something similar to 512 RAM, NEXTOR, SCC, FMPAK, etc...) I'm using a standard NMS 8250.

Anyway I'm not sure anymore if I've setup my MSX-DOS2 environment using GR8NET properly. I would say I followed the instructions 100% but who knows...

NEXTOR boots so "DOS2 seems to be working".

What happens next? I want to try using some MSX-DOS2 programs (VGMPLAY from Grauw for example), and while it boots perfectly and reproduces the song I chose via command line, when I press ESC to go back to DOS2, the dreaded message appears on screen, something similar to "Can't find a proper COMMAND.COM, insert one and press enter". I can only get out from there making a hard reset.

I'm writing all this from memory, I mean, maybe the version number of all the programs and tools here listed is relevant, but maybe not, and thus I'd like to know why MSX-DOS2 says "command.com not found blablalbal". Should I be aware of something else specially when using GR8NET in NETSETMAP(24) mode, specially when GR8NET is the only device capable of running NEXTOR for me ? If more fine tuning is needed, I'll gladly get the exact messages, versions, etc from my environment.

Or maybe GR8NET (booting it using NETSETMAP(24)) is not the best DOS2 environment?

Greetings and thanks in advance.

Probably this is because of the version of command2.com which version do you use? Did you try a different one?

No idea where I got it from or which one should be the one I need for my DOS 2 environment.
Where can I find command2.com variants to choose from?
How could I know what's the proper one I need?

BTW, I assembled a "DOS2 environment" with many pieces from here and there, somewhat not knowing what I was doing.

The thing is, IT WORKS a first time, and you can do many things, but once I boot VGMPLAY (it's an example, I don't have many other DOS2 utilities around, no offense Grauw Smile, it just can't return to COMMAND2.COM...

Why command2.com was able to run in the first time?

My versions:
GR8NET (0.10)
NEXTOR 2.01 (2014)
nextor kernel 2.1.0
nextor.sys 2.01
command2.com version 2.44
1989 by msx association
1997 by cpu
2010 by the new image

I would start by updating Nextor.sys. 2.0.1 is an old version and there may be inconsistencies with the 2.1.0 kernel you are running...

Probably it is because of version. . I run GR8NET as well using _NETSETMAP (24,1) currently with flash v.0.10 and engine v.0.7 on the GR8NET using Philips 8280

I run:
Nextor kernel 2.1.0
Nextor.sys 2.10
Command2.com 2.44
SymbOS 3.1 Wink

Perfect, I've already located nextor 2.10 somewhere else, just in case. I'll try it as soon as I can and will report accordingly.

Thanks.

EDIT: As expected no changes, same behaviour using Nextor 2.10... Where can I get a different command2.com, which apparently seems to be the offending file (for DOS2 ?)

Hmm seems like an odd case. I run those versions and never had these issues. Only thing that comes close is with Certain MultiMente versions that seem to cause memory corruption (while other versions work fine). Which version of vgmplay are you using? And do you have the option to try on another MSX?

Last vgmplay, that is 1.3 rc5...

I might try my Toshiba HX20 msx1, not sure if nextor will work with it... gr8net should do the memory mapped magic dos2 needs, and then maybe vgmplay will still work...

Some other time though, as today is late to get my Toshiba out from its hidden place.

Okay, come to think of it, 2 more things you could check.

1. I have personally also MSXDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM on my SD, worth a shot.
2. Try setting COMSPEC in your AUTOEXEC.BAT (or removing it if it is set)

I will list my SD card contents and we'll see if I have something additional that NEXTOR doesn't like, or if I need some files that I don't have and might help NEXTOR dealing with this situation ( as MSXDOS1 system files for example ).

There's also an AUTOEXEC.BAT, but with a single line: "REM SOFARUN/SR.COM", so there's no effective autoexec, as it's commented. Do your working NEXTOR instances have some defined COMSPEC inside?

Thanks.

That's the content of my Nextor enabled FAT16 SDCard:
