I have not used my HB9 for sometime, I got a new monitor that has composite video/audio in.

The sounds is fine, however, the monitor is in in black and white. Not so useful! I cannot see the colour of the hearts nor the colours of the enemies in various Konami games!

Usually that's a PAL vs NTSC issue. Does the monitor accept PAL composite, assuming that's what your MSX outputs?

You can't just leave it like that without telling us what the issue was... think about how frustrating it is if you read this when you have the same issue!

It is a switch at the back of the computer.

The switch is next to the AV out, very small. I seem to have lost the '0' key from the numeric keypad whilst it was in storage, i should be able to find that, hopefully it will just "click" back into place.

I intend getting a C2 cartridge, hopefully when the UK government reinstates some of my disability benefits! I haven't worked now due to my infirmitiees, i still have steady hand for simple soldering jobs, but nothing more.

I believe BAS has issues with his eyes, my condition is a heart one called a HOCM which make me feel tired and fatigued a lot, my eyes and ears are in great condition, the movement of my limbs, especially my legs can at times be difficult, my arms lack the co-ordination they used to have. I used to be able to repair older Radar and marine transceiver devices. Which helps my other hobby music listening, not really MSX related!

This sounds kinda rough and I dont want to go off topic but I believe you can surgically remove the obstruction part out of HOCM and this should help a lot. This is still considered "open heart surgery" but it is still minimal, probably worth to try it out
