Screen Sync Problem with Sony HB-F1XV

Hi all,

I have a Japanese Sony HB-F1XV that I have not been using for quite a while. I've just connected it via OSSC to my screen and it is working, but the video signal is constantly turning black for half a second about every 30 seconds. When I connect the Philips NMS 8250 to the same setup, everything is working as expected. Now I really have no clue about hardware and electronics in general, but is there something I could do about this?

The Sony HB-F1XV is known for having “suicide capacitors” in the video circuitry, so replacing those would be my first suggestion. For more details see here.

Thanks for the info. I've bough this from hanihanis51 about one year ago and he has replaced all capacitors so I was hoping not to run into any trouble. The issue is that I have no idea how to replace a capacitor. I don't even really know what a capacitor is

I have the same problem with the HB-F1XV, but my capacitors are all replaced. So I think there is another problem to this behaviour with the OSSC .
Are there more people that use the HB-F1XV with the OSSC?

One difference between the Sony HB-F1XV and Philips NMS 8250 is the display frequency.

What happens if you type VDP(10)=2 on the Sony and VDP(10)=0 on the Philips?

Last week I connected a Philips VG8235 to a Sony GVM-1400QM screen. It waved. I put it on 60Hz and it waved just in a different frequency. I then swapped it with a Sony HB-F1XDJ and the waves were gone. The Philips VG8235 on its Philips VS0080 screen behaves as well.

TL;DR 60Hz of machine 1 is not always the same as 60Hz on machine 2.

I had the same issue with F1XV on OSSC. Screen blacking out for no apparent reason whilst having no issue with the machine on a SCART TV or CRT monitor. The machine was also recapped. I suspect the sync signal is not stable/clean but did not investigate.

My try to get a bit more on topic again:
I've connected a Sony HB-F1XV to an HDMI screen now using a cheap RGB2HDMI converter. That's one point for this converter cuz it does not go out of sync.

Not sure if that is helping anyone or how it is related but the only other thing that I've found is on the Retro Scaler A1 site where someone is reporting that the HB-F1XV "seems to loose sync".

I'll try the VDP(10)=2 tonight.

I've tried it again but strangely and luckily it did not happen anymore. I've played a few Konami games for two hours and the screen did not turn black for one single time. I honestly don't know why but I think I didn't change anything at all.

The OSSC shows: "AV1_RGBS 262-p 15.68kHz 59.87Hz" when just booting. When I enter VDP(10)=2 it goes to "AV1_RGBS 313-p 15.68kHz 50.12Hz". Just FYI.

Are you using the SCART or VGA input of your OSCC to connect the HB-F1XV?

Test with COLOR1,15,15 on BASIC and see if it looses sync.
