Hi, Cesco. Sure you have my permission. The ROM file is already available for free download, and maybe with the CAS file more people will be able to play Caos on a real MSX. More people playing Caos, more people wanting the cartridge version.
About the loading screen, some colors seem to be changed in yours, mainly the mountain. However, I also like more yours: less dithering, more MSX style.

good, can we have the .sc2 format for download?
here it is

These loading screens really remember me the "old days" with tapes. The only strange thing is the "ROM" label in a cassette version. If any of you, Artrag or Cesco, wants the image withouth the "ROM" label, I can send it to you.
No need, thanks

Tonight I have tried to load the game on my Philips VG8020 but it's not working
That's strange, before this afternoon while I was working I have tried a lot of times to load it with OpenMSX, and I never had problems
Instead on the VG8020 when the game is fully loaded the computer freezes and the screen gets blank. After pressing the reset button the game seems to work... I can see the intro screen, I can press the space button and start the game... the on-screen graphics is perfect but when I try to move the main character it's like as if something weird is happening: suddently the hero of the game seems to be stuck in front of an invisible wall, and if I try to jump the character seems to land on an invisible platform, suspended on the air...
I don't know how to explain it... it seems like I can see a particular stage on the screen, but when the computer controls my movements to see if the hero is colliding with something, it's like if it's looking at a completely different stage located in memory istead.
when you reboot the RAM at 8000h is corrupted
so the game is there only with its first half,
the second half could have been erased or damnaged
The CAS file is also working on BlueMSX. Tomorrow I'll have to do further experiments with the other VG8020 I have at home...
I don't understand...
I have tried the converted Caos Begins on two similar computers, two Philips VG-8020, and I got two different behaviors...
One computer is a VG8020/00 and the other one is a VG8020/20 (that means it's the second hardware revision I guess)
On the VG8020/00 the game loads and plays immediately (I have tested it on the real hardware and on OpenMSX)
Instead, on the VG8020/20 the screen turns to black and nothing seems to happen (it looks like as if the MSX is stuck in an infinite loop). When I push the reset button on the real hardware (or when use the "reset" command under OpenMSX) the game starts but it's unplayable.
I have used the universal poke, as written on the MSX FAQ ( POKE -1,1.0625*(NOT(PEEK(-1))AND&HF0) ). I have even tried to BLOAD the binary files without applying that poke, but I got the same results.
What could it be ?
These are the files I'm actually using for making some tests:
( Wav file that can be used on the real hardware or on OpenMSX, 2400 Baud, The compressed file is only 108Kb )
test.cesco.it/Caos Begins (2400 Baud).wav.zip
( Wav file that can be used on the real hardware or on OpenMSX, 3200 Baud, The compressed file is only 100Kb )
test.cesco.it/Caos Begins (3200 Baud).wav.zip
( Cas file for BlueMSX and other emulators, 38Kb )
test.cesco.it/Caos Begins.cas.zip
Type RUN"CAS:" to load the game
If you prefer, I have also made an archive with the single files needed to load the game, so you can export them to a disk and load Caos Begins from within MSX Basic. There are three files: CAOSBG.ASC (the Basic loader), CAOS1.BIN and CAOS2.BIN (the binary files of the game)
( Disk Version )
test.cesco.it/Caos Begins.zip
( DSK Version )
test.cesco.it/Caos Begins.dsk.zip
