Having a blast playing Xanadu for the first time. I figured out the button config, attacking, using magic & items, and increasing stats. Two things I can't figure out though...

1.) How do you normally save in this game? Do I just walk into a INN and my game is saved? Right now I'm playing through blueMSX but I'm getting the game in the mail, so this bit of info is important to me.

2.) How do I beat the first boss, Big Kraken? None of my attacks & magic hurt him. Jumping on top of him is instant death too. Crying

I know that the Xanadu cartridge has some sort of S-ram to save in. I don't know how to save in BlueMSX though.

Which is why I'm just using savestates for now because the game doesn't indicate if your game was saved at all.

I figured out how to beat the Big Kraken. You need a minimum of 500 defense, so I bought Scale-Armor. Equiping it raised my defense to 600, the Kraken hardly made a dent on me. Tongue

Xanadu I believe is pretty rare in having an MSX (1) version which exceeds the MSX 2 version not only in gameplay but also graphically.

Though I must admist I never went hardcore into the game.

Well, the MSX2 version is pretty much the same as the original PC-8801. I do agree with you though. The MSX1 version is much more fun to play mainly because it runs faster on cartridge, and it has different soundtrack which is more upbeat compared to the MSX2/PC-8801.

If it works the same as in openMSX, the blueMSX emulation will simply keep anything saved to the SRAM persistent. So, just play a bit, save the game to SRAM in the game itself and then just try if it works. You can always fall back to the save states.

I think I got it. In Xanadu, the game saves whenever you enter a Cave/Level or Castles & Towers.

I just bought this game, very cool cover art Smile

While looking through the manual I saw that you're allowed save-states.
During the game, press CTRL + Q to save and CTRL + R to restore. However, each time you save with CTRL + Q you lose gold. Nice feature, at least if you made a dumb mistake you can quickly restore your last save point with 2 buttons with no special charge Smile2

Hi! I am currently playing it, too. But since I am only emulating I have the usual problems here. I managed to identify the controls and to ascend to Aspirant level. So grinding is now longer a problem. But what am I supposed to do? How do I find the bosses? what are the castles and towers for? Could someone please be so kind and help me? Smile
