Hi.

Anyone has done this modification?

What components do i need? Just a transfo?

I don't like external 220-110 adaptors... so, hardware modification is my best chance...

The system is a Sanyo Wavy 2FDD.

Thx in advance.

i am going to do that pretty soon to my tuboR (if everything fits)

my plan is to fit in a powersuply from a (broken) 8235

havent looked at it yet though

I have exact same MSX2+ at home (be it in bad shape at the moment). Fortunately for me, it was already adapted to 220V when I bought it long ago. Unfortunately for you, it isn't clear to see what was changed. There is a small transformer inside that doesn't look like it was originally there, but I just can't say for sure.

Didn't bother to take a good look at that power supply either. Tongue One warning here: judging by markings on the main board, some parts in that upper left corner carry the mains voltage. So there's a small area where it's NOT safe to touch components when plugged in (even if computer is switched off!). In other words: when plugged in, touch things there only with test pins from a voltmeter. When you want to do work in that area, make sure the mains voltage is PHYSICALLY unplugged!

Can you do a quick inspection and find out what type of powersupply it is? (I could, but judging from your question you've got unmodified version). I know it's some sort of switching power supply, but does the regulator work with the mains voltage (like in PC power supplies), or on the secondary side of a transformer (like in some other MSX machines) ?

@OeiOeiVogeltje: doesn't the Turbo-R have a power supply that works with a switching regulator, on the secundary side of the transformer? If so, all you'd have to replace is that transformer, with a type that has 230V primary, and suitable secondary voltages. No need to modify the rest of the power supply...

And how could I do this to a Panasonic FS-A1 WX MSX2+?

Thx. I'll do photos, that way U can see diferences (i hope!)

The problem is find a regulator with 3 outputs... (+12,+5, and +12?/ -12?)
The only ones i found are 220 -> 2x +12v... there is no problem... with a 7805 +5v are working, but... -12v?

I have a VG8020 and its power supply seems to be simply... maybe "copying" it will be a successfuly solution. There isn't space enought to "paste" VG8020 power suplly inside Wavy case, but...

copy and paste... talking about power supplies like a Word doc! LOL!

I think you're lucky.

If i'm right, you have 2 outputs (yellow wires) and they must be 12volts. Can U check voltages of yellow wires (on board connector)? white one must be ground.

If all of them are +12v, you can change it with a 220-> 2x12v one.

Surely, you must change nothing on board... right?

Blue/white is primary coil. Yellow-white-yellow is secondary. Very common configuration for transformers. Measure the (AC!, not DC) voltages across those wires, when connected with computer powered up. I'm guessing you'd get: white-yellow: around 10-15V AC, white-other yellow: about the same, yellow-yellow: double that.

If so, you can replace with any transformer that:
a) has 230V primary, and 2x same AC voltages secondary, with wire halfway secondary coil (or 2 secondary coils), can do about same power, and
b) physically fits in there (=the hard part).

I'd also replace mains cord since it doesn't look like it would pass Dutch safety standards for 230V AC connection Cool And if there's a fuse on the primary side, you might want to check / change its current rating (twice the voltage = half the current for same power output)

i was actually thinking of keeping that cord since it has a fitting "trekontlasting" for the TurboR case

i looked at the service manual of the TurboR (panasonicturborgtcolorsm.pdf)
and there at page 33/62 (of the PDF) or page 34 of the service manual it says the powersuply should supply +12V,-12V and 5 Volts

at the service manual of a 8255 (philipsnms825055sm.pdf) at page 9 of 40 it says +12V,-12V and 5 Volts

seems to me it should be easy to put that in

*edit*

Close but no cigar!

the 8255 powersupply is too big

seems ill have to look out for another powersupply
