Crisis effect on MSXgame price?

Looking on the Dutch 'Marktplaats' and Ebay I get the feeling that the prices ask for MSX-games are becoming higher and higher.

Is it me or is everyone following each other in pricing their stuff. I see on ebay and marktplaats loose (no box/no manual) game cartridges (the common ones) for 20 to 50 euro (yes even prices of up to 200 euro) .

I know that I can just ignore them and wait for a better prized offer. But still it bothers me. Its hard to find a real auction nowadays.........

Aren't they just simple traders? Buying a cart for 20, selling it for 25.

Next one buys it for 25, sells it for 30.

etc.

You're probably right. It has nothing to do with MSX. But simply a matter of making money.

The cheap dollar is a real friend for us living in Europe now. I have made great bargains recently thanks to that.

At some point there's no point increasing the price. I can understand that Metal Gear related games are sold for skyrocketing sums (tho the prices of ~200 euro I saw recently are really insane), but I doubt a game like Vampire Killer ever gets *there*. At some point people can't justify spending skyrocketing prices for 'normal' games, and the last one who bought it is going to be stuck with it.

I read somewhere that a guy sold SD Snatcher for €30 during a Spanish MSX meeting in the mid nineties. LOL! Tongue

I still have an original Metal Gear laying about which is in pristine condition; no box/manual though. Also Salamander, but that one I modded with a switch to not to have to insert the cart after powering up. Also an FM-PAC with box/manual with an upgraded opamp.

I doubt I'll ever sell them though.

Appropriate quote here: "markets know the price of everything, but the value of nothing"

In other words: whatever a fool wants to pay, what's it worth to you? I can understand a collector who's been wanting a complete, boxed version of X for years, then sees it for sale, and has the money burning in his pocket. Personally, I can think of many better/nicer ways to use 200 Euro than add a good-as-new Solid Snake cart to my collection.

Before buying anything, ask yourself: "how am I going to use it? Immediately or in the near future". If the answer is "just for admiring it a few times a year, and feeling content about owning one", well that's not worth much to me. If it's something I know I will use and enjoy often, quality is more important than price. Perhaps you see things differently. :murdock:
