MSX emulators performance

Hi out there,

in your opinion, what MSX emulator offers the best performance?

I have got a five years-old PC and I would like to use it as a MSX and MAME emulation machine.

I've tried out OpenMSX but it doesn't work very well (sound jitters very often and keyboard is not very responsive).

Any other suggestion?

in OpenMSX try to change the sound buffer size, that works in my brand new dualcore notebook.

type "set scale_factor 1" (without the quotes, off course) on the onpenMSX console. That should solve it.

openMSX runs smoothly on a Dingoo, which is a small system. So on a five years old PC it should also run smoothly. Check these hints:

If you use emulator on MS Windows, blumsx is the best choice to use easily and smoothly other than emulator.
(openMSX is the best choice to use this on Linux machine.)

I also checked the following runtime program and compared the result between MSXturboR with blueMSX.

As the result is more short than Real machine, the emulator's runtme speed is fast than it.)

(BlueMSX's perfomance is fast than real machine.)

Hey, manuel, since you mentioned the Dingoo.
Do you know if new versions of openMSX for Dingoo are being developed?

The openMSX version for Dingoo runs smoothly, indeed.
But it freezes whenever you try to exit the emulator.

This Dingoo problem was solved months ago (startup script issue), but the fixed version wasn't released.
Too bad IMHO - most users chose other emulator because of this problem (which is not an emulator fault at all)

Manuel said he'd be back in the weekend... I guess he's without internet for a few days.

openMSX for the dingoo is still being developed... just wait a few weeks

Thank you all for your tips.

I've compared OpenMSX to BlueMSX and definitively BlueMSX works better for me; anyway the keyboard response is still not perfect and it makes some games almost unplayable. Some native PC games have a perfect keyboard response on the same PC, so it should not be an issue related to the hardware or the OS.

Any suggestion to get a faster keyboard emulation on BlueMSX?

You could try nlMSX or if your computer is really old, and runs something like win9x or older, you could try BrMSX (which is fast as it can be!). Both emulators gives reasonable accuracy to play games.

Of course, no emu is like the real thing
