Nope, in the weekends from morning till around six Akihabara Mainstreet is closed for car traffic. During weekdays it's very busy!

Ah, that explains.. I only went there at weekdays (afaik) and can confirm it's amazingly crowded then

It sure is!! I went there on sunday, and could walk everywhere but when I came back on monday I almost got hit by a car!
