At one of my visits to the fabulous Z-FEST in Germany I saw a strange kind (at least for me it was) of ATA-IDE interface for Z-80 based (home)computers. This nifty device is meant to be assembled between the main cpu and the mainboard. It's also been told to be a generic interface so it must be possible to use it on a variety of Z-80 based computers. Maybe it will also work with our beloved MSX system and that's why I start this topic... Also because when it really should work it should be also very easy to make a hdd (or cf/sd card with adapter) available internally in your MSX system without the loss of a cartridge slot Smile

I collected some background information for the more technical MSX users among us and I ask them to take a look and make some comments if they think it's possible to use it with the MSX system.

- Background information can be found here ;

- Lots of technical information provided by the KC CLub of Germany (KC is a productline of the Robotron computerfactories in de former GDR);

- More technical information provided by the original designer Tilmann Reh.

Photo of an early version of this GIDE interfaceboard (you can see the Z-80 is mounted on this board):

I read from time to time many articles talking about GIDE but saw an actual picture of any board , thanks for that data collection !
Probably bypassing the MSX BUS might be interesting for achieving higher rate , maybe with DMA or other .
...
I did not know the Z-fest was still held , do you have link to the photo gallery of this fest ? i am intereseted to see some guy went there with his CPU280 board , did you see thinks like that ?

Oh yes! there were multiple users with their cpu280 boards (also the inventor Tilmann Reh (again Smile) was there.

Here are the links to the photogaleries till 2008 editions and here of the 2009 and 2010 editions (which I visited with SMDneardark and we plan to go again next year).

Thanks for the link !
...edit...
on img123 isee a system with a rear expansion board, one of them looks ethernet board ?
What is that computer showing colofull scene with "his event" written on it , on img36 ? oh by the loudspeaker i can recognize it , its just the TurboR !

Indeed this is an ethernet interface (the one in the back, closest to the monitor) placed in a Alba PC1505 (exportmodel from the former GDR):

And this was SMDneardark's and my mini-oldschool-demo made for this event :)

And one of the cpu280's:

I think the main challenge is to (re)program a bios for it?

i wonder if sunrise is more memory mapped as compared to I/O mapped for GIDE .
