Sama: what I was suprised about is that Sunrise doesn't have that fixed version themselves... Wasn't it given back?
@GuyveR800: Hi Guyv, good to have you back! Really missed that stuff!
@pmack: I don't know about any Turbo R problems. I believe the game should work normally on a Turbo R as well. Probably sunrise (or someone else) will have a fix for that. You could also send him an e-mail to be sure he reads your request; I believe his e-mail address can be found in his profile.
@Manuel: What do you mean by 'given back'? I first learned about the level 43 bug when I testplayed the game for WOOMB. When the game was just released at Sunrise years ago, I bought a copy and I would have sworn that eventually I finished the game (which implies that eventually no level 43 bug was left). I was surprised to learn that I seem to have been wrong, as others have been encountering this problem as well. Sunrise didn't really approve of us re-releasing the game through WOOMB and I guess that's also the reason why he has never contacted us about our fix. Or maybe I am wrong and sunrise still has some completely working version lying around somewhere.
I have the original game when it was released and it really has the bug of stage 43. In the next games subscription game (Akin) there was a patch included, which fixed most bugs, except the stage 43 one.
So, I think that there isn't a single fixed version available anywhere, except the one from Woomb. So, it would have been nice to give that back to Sunrise... (without them contacting Bazix).
It's a great pity (understatement?) Sunrise didn't approve of it. (I guess that's why someone called it illegal here. And that also explains why the fix wasn't given back to them.) But what do I know... I guess either Sunrise is the copyright holder and Bazix did something illegal (which I wouldn't expect, knowing the people involved), or Sunrise is not the copyright holder (maybe only producer and distributor? I remember the disk said Copyright Sunrise, but I'm too lazy to go and look it up) and Bazix arranged something with the real copyright holder... Or it's even more complicated. In any case, a weird situation, but I guess shit already happened and all of this is none of my business
To get back to the original post: I don't know of a problem on the A1ST. The game worked fine on my MSX2 back then and it seems to work (mostly) on an emulated ST as well (I did get a hangup, but trying again I could start and play the game... so, I'm not sure what the exact problem is...? What happens exactly on that ST??)
Manuel: the copyright proprietors of Shrines of Enigma are the developers (team Element). We entered into a (written) license agreement with them. We also discussed the level 43 bug with them, but it was too long ago for them to be able to fix it, that's why we did it ourselves. Team Element told us they never gave an exclusive license to Sunrise for distributing the game (neither did Sunrise claim that something like that was the case), so there was nothing illegal about the release. Not even close - Team Element was very happy that we wanted to release their game through WOOMB.
It's all a long time ago now. In the past, we have had some harsh feelings about the reception of our efforts. Sunrise protesting and disapproving while Team Element was totally ok with it, wasn't really helping. Ah, you know it as well, there has been much ado about Bazix and WOOMB in the past. But to me that's the past, so that's also why I don't mind releasing a patch. Actually I would appreciate it if Sunrise would use the fix in order to be sure that copies sold in the future are bug-free. But I'm not the only one to decide on this. If you appreciate it, I will check who was responsible for the bug fix and try to get his approval.
Don't some (disk based) games have to be booted while holding the "1" key on Turbo R?
Or am I thinking too simple here?
Checked through emulation (blueMSX and openMSX) and yes: try booting with "1".
On openMSX, I didn't have to, on blueMSX, I did.
Note: I think I was emulating FS-A1-GT, not ST.
Sama: actually, I think the best outcome of all of this is to make sure that Sunrise gets the most bug free version that can be realized. And since they only need to get the stage 43 fixed and the Woomb version has that fixed, I think it would be great if you could help to get that fix available! Both old buyers of the game would benefit and also all future buyers, indeed.
Anyway, thanks in advance for your effort to get back the patch. I hope you have more success than I did
Note that BiFi also made a 'hack'/patch to fix the level. With that I could at least finish stage 43. The only thing that still went wrong a bit was the score counter after the stage. But I had seen that also for some other levels.
In other words: there's a very good chance this will all work out just fine
ABout the '1' key: that's not necessary. It works fine without it. The game supports turboR explicitly (it enables turbo while loading, it seems). It also supports MSX-DOS2, because it has explicit support to run on harddisk.

Hmm, then my blueMSX 'setup' may be not totally correct. With openMSX, it indeed just booted and worked perfectly.
What happened then?
What happened then?
With openMSX? Game just ran automatically, no problems.
With blueMSX, it did too, but I had to boot with "1" pressed, else no readie diskie.
