As there seems to be a demand for MSX2 games and the lack of a competition for MSX2 (or higher) games. I would like to see if it is possible to start a competition for it.
Yes I am dead serious.

I am willing to provide hosting + domain name registration for the competition. But perhaps there are other options.
Rules:

- Create a game/application that runs on any existing MSX configuration (MSX, MSX2, MSX2+ or MSX turboR).
- Only DSK (1 or more) or ROM (common mappers as in MSXdev) formats are allowed. (It is allowed to have multiple disks for a game).
- All existing MSX hardware can be used.
- All games should come with an English manual (extra other languages are optional)
- No code plagiarism (using standard code like re-players/compression etc are allowed).
- It is allowed to re-use/rip music and or graphics from other (commercial) games but will result in a penalty.
- It is allowed to use programs like yoshida konzern, dante or gamebuilder to create your game.

- A jury (minimal 3 persons but hopefully more) will be judging the entries.
- Prizes are collected using an open donation format (Paypal)

If you'd admit a suggestion, keep the specs fixed and do the same with the formats. If not, it's too confusing for developers and not exactly fair for different contestants with different targets and/or specs. And forget about applications. A contest like that was organized some years ago and it did not have remarkable entries. But it's up to you!

Thanks. You opinion is very welcome.

I think specs wont be a real problem if you judge entries not for their specs but the use of the specs/creativity.
I don't want eye-candy judging.

But perhaps it needs some narrowing down.
Before starting the competition I think there has to be more than one person involved to create the final rules.

Sometimes I wonder whether individuals or teams have grown tired of contests lately, or whether they've just run out of time due to their private lives. Because game development requires full devotion for a couple o' intensive months, and if you're in a team: everyone in that team needs the same devotion.

Still people are asking (demanding) an MSX2 competition.

Or are those people the ones that are not going to enter? But only want new games created by others?

Of course gamers keep asking for (MSX2) games. Of course I'd like Aleste 3 more than Time Pilot. Tongue Heck, I've an unused G9k lying here, let's make Aleste 3 with multilayers and lots o' sprites. It's so easy to say 'in our scene we have the talent to make an RPG, we have the designers and the musicians and the coders to make an RPG, ergo: we shall wish for an RPG'. But something like that is a large scale project, and there's the poo in the pool. But meanwhile, yea I want those big games too, like anyone else.. Tongue I see specific development issues everywhere, mostly with tools and the role of coders and artists. But restricting a competition to MSX1 isn't the solution.

In the past I've played that Holy Griel game from Momonoki (some Peach Up Special edition iirc) a lot, and some years ago Karoshi made an MSX1 version out of it. Such a game would already be nice as an MSX2 game if you ask me. Make it for MSX2, and done ye be! MSX2 doesn't have to mean SD Snatcher, Space Manbow and Xak2. There can be small MSX2 games too, and that's where things get overlooked.

Let's skip the MSX 1&2 and set the minimum requirement to msx2+ and higher Hannibal

Well, that too is worth a debate. How many of us use their real hardware and how many of us bang everything into an emulator? In the latter case, we could as well go for a turbo R with 2MB mem..

Nah, MSX. And a turbo R is just that (except for the cassette port ^^).
