Nextor 2.0 Alpha 2b

Konamiman has published a new alpha version of Nextor, the MSX-DOS 2 compatible operating system. There are no new features on this version, but several bugs were fixed. The most important thing about this release, however, is that this is the first version that has been tested (altough only superficially) with real hardware: a Sunrise CF reader in a MSX Turbo-R.

Additionally, there is a new tool available at Konamiman's site: IDEFL128.COM. This is a modified version of IDEFLOAD.COM, the Sunrise IDE flash ROM loader, that allows flashing 128K ROM files (the original IDEFLOAD.COM tool allows flashing 64K files only). IDEFL128.COM has been developed by Jon De Schrijder and it is necessary in order to flash the Nextor kernel on a Sunrise IDE or CF reader device.

First results:

I tryed it on my MSX 8280 (7mhz, 2+)

1. I insered a new CF card (2GB) in my sunrise interface. (To be sure)
2. I used the flash program succesfully (Use INS to boot your system and create a disk with both nestor and dos 1 and dos 2 on it)
3. After a reboot i used _Fdisk to create a new partition (2GB fat16) and saved the partition table to the CF card. (This part i realy cool!!) without loading anything from disk
4. After a reboot (again) i noticde that i saw there was 1 A disk for the fat16 partition there was no B: for some reason and the first floppy drive was C and D
5. I copyed the Dos and Nestor files in basic from c: to a: in this case.
6. Again i rebooted the system and nester dos was started succesfully.
7. If you do a DIR it takes a lot of time to calculated the free disk space (more then 5 seconds) this is not handy.
8. If i inserted my flash card (the one i used before flashing the new rom the the IDE interface) (contains multiple fat 12 and 1 fat16 partition it's not working anymore with the flashed version of nestor..

This was my first test.. i have to test a lot more .. next thing is to copy some programs and files to my MSX and look how compatible nestor dos is.
But first impression is cool !! very cool that you are making this software for MSX..

Try "reduced allocation information mode", this should fix your problem (Type: RALLOC A: ON)

Id like to test it but i need to know if this is compatible with "normal" CF interfaces

with that i mean
can i put a nextor formatted CF in a Sunrise CF interface (as lave card)

CF interfaces are hard to come by these days
and i would NEED another interface;one with "normal" bios and one with "Nextor" bios

i don't get it. If your search the internet there are a lot of CF's! And last week i saw them also in the mediamarkt.
Also.. about the interface... just flash that thing! .. you can simply go back.. so.. i don't see the problem
And during all those actions you have some FUN with your MSX And the test results are also welcome
Developers need guys to test their software Because.. if you don't find a bug there is no new release needed

if i have to check from compatibility between "normal " and "nextor" i would have to flash my "normal" CF interface,then prepare my CF card for use with Nextor,then reflash my CF interface to "normal" and then see if the Nextor prepared CF card still is readable/usable.
Too much fuss...

if a Nextor prepared CF card would work as a slave card with in a normal CF i would do it right away
i need to have compatibility with other MSX users who dont have nextor

Does the combination "normal" CF with one CF with fat12 partition + fat16 partition (fat16 driver loaded) and a nextor fat16 CF card work if placed in a "normal" CF interface?

Normaly, you can boot from a FAT16 partition using Nextor. (nextor.sys must be on the root of the CF)
But, i would say.. always backup your software.. but this is something you have to do now also on a regulair base

ehm
since my problems with the Sunrise CF interface i have a spare flashchip that goes one it
i was wondering if it was possible to put that one int too and make a switch in the interface so i could switch it?
so no flashing but only flipping a switch?
