Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to crank up the volume now. Frysian MSX veteran Meits of Dutch development group Near Dark has sent us a present. It's an improved version of DISK, a disk containing some interesting 'MB-Stereo' tunes. This means that the music uses both MSX-Music and MSX-Audio simultaneously to create an extra rich effect, so be sure to have both of those chips plugged in. The meaning of the abbreviation DISK, as is the name of this disk, is De Idiootste Spellen Koffers, which roughly translates from Dutch as "The Most Idiotic Game Arrangements/Suitcases". It's recommended to run this demo on a real MSX machine.

This update of DISK contains the following:

  • A new MoonBlaster driver
  • 50 and 60 Hertz music equalization
  • MSX-DOS2 compatibility

In the first version of DISK every music file had a 50 and 60 Hertz version. Thanks to the new MoonBlaster driver, this isn't necessary anymore. Other changes are:

When booting from disk:

- In the replayer you can press [SELECT] to toggle VDP frequency

When booting from mass storage device:

- type "DISK" plus [RETURN] to load DISK
- In the replayer you can press [SELECT] to toggle VDP frequency
- After pressing a key when the credits part is done, you will return to MSX-DOS

Honored on a strange way, but why did you record it in mono?

I did not rip the songs to honor the composer, I just did it to listen in my car on my way to work. It's in mono because I really don't care about quality, if I want more I can connect my MSX Tongue

With Msx-audio and fm-pac MSX is anything but mono.
Even with just fm-pac (or SCC for that matter) the channels can be split, I use a mixer-box to select the way audiochips are routed to left or right.
So I have:

- a PSG channel
- two FM stereo-pak channels
- an SCC channel (ok, its nessecary to modify a cartridge to seporate this channel from the PSG sound)
- an MSX audio channel.

(thats 5 channels)

And they can all be selected to be routed to either left or right.
How's that for stereo?

Meits, GREAT, I cant wait to try the new DISK tonight, to bad I have to work first Smile

Greetings,

Jan

Please do tell me how you modified your SCC. Did you give it its own audio output? If so (I'm not the handyman), could you alter mine? (Since this topic is rather old, I can only hope you read this before it vanishes again Wink )

I'm okay with the SCC fix now. Luppie put a jack output on my MegaflashromSCC+SD. Mighty handy Smile
