Sander:

How to check first if there are enough people who want to translate? Now I've almost no german MSX contacts anymore, so starting a dialogue first isn't that easy, especially if things go on rapidly. The only way to get to know about is to use the existing forums, especially the MRC. It's just one forum thread, not a forum by itself. If you don't like it, you don't need to visit that thread. And as it is not so easy to have a language specific forum due to the lack of people with time available, just putting the translations to a thread is the easiest way to support the MSX revival.

MSX is an international homecomputer standard, and that means, the standard can be used in every country, not just in english speaking countries as most of the former 8 bit systems. Internationality means having language specific keybords etc., so that the system can spread all over the world.

As you probably not know, the situation of MSX in germany wasn't as good as e.g. in the netherlands. But there was a MSX scene in germany, too. So, if you really want MSX revival, you need to go back to good old MSX tradition of having language specific material. If MSX revival is just in japanese and maybe in englisch, it'll most probably fail!

But it would be a good idea for MSX revival to support even languages with a small amount of people speaking it. As such languages are often spoken in poor countries, new MSX computers must be very cheep. Therefore, language specific material must be produced by enthousiasts supporting that system, not by big companies, which are only interested in profit. But as there're only a few people, they must use the possibilities they have, not waiting on dialogues and reactions. According to experience, people don't react or, if they do, they most likely say that it won't work.

The more language specific material concerning MSX is available on the web, the better for the MSX revival!

How to check first if there are enough people who want to translate?Well, you could start by -asking- on the MRC forums where more German MSX fans gather. From there we could try and see if someone's willing to start translating the interface of the MRC to German and if there are enough people (4 - 6) who would like to maintain the translation. It's how the Spanish, Brazilian Russian and Dutch MRC started...

So, if you really want MSX revival, you need to go back to good old MSX tradition of having language specific material. If MSX revival is just in japanese and maybe in englisch, it'll most probably fail!Although the MRC reports about the MSX Revival, the MRC is not involved in it. The MRC is, however, trying to bring the lastest MSX news under the attention of as many people as possible, which is exactly why we are a multilingual website.

But as there're only a few people, they must use the possibilities they have, not waiting on dialogues and reactions. According to experience, people don't react or, if they do, they most likely say that it won't work.Well, that's not my experience with the other languages MRC is available in.

The more language specific material concerning MSX is available on the web, the better for the MSX revival!I think that one can be rephrased to 'The more language specific material concerning MSX is available on the web, the better'. Wink

I'm afraid there aren't enough people!

Although the MRC reports about the MSX Revival, the MRC is not involved in it.
Who else is, if not the ones already using MSX?

It's a general experience.

Opening this thread and posting some translated news was trying it. Obviously, there
is no interest in it, otherwise, there would have been some reactions form german speaking
visitors of the MRC. And, as I learnt in another thread, just one on one copies of news or
translations aren't apprechiated in MRC.

well, we don't appreciate one on one copies of news or translations on external sites, you're in a grey area now. You've sent me a very very long e-mail, I'll try and reply it soon Wink

@tanni: the reactions part isn't really true though. We almost never get any reactions on the translated versions of the MRC, yet the stats clearly show they're read enough...
