As you can see, I'm having most fun playing rpgs (and I'm quickly running out of the best ones), but there's still a lots of great games in my "to play through" list on other genres. Some are just so insanely hard that I can't beat them without cheating (f. ex the Konami shooters). I guess I just have to hone my skills to be better.

Except for Hero (in a way): DUDE! How!? (okay, you explained on Kungfu2, but still)...
Errr... Is there really an end to Hero?

Perhaps we should define 'cheat' first. If a cheat is one of the following:

- entering a password that increases your abilities/strength and possibly location
- prior to starting a game: run a cheat program that results in some or all of the above
- add a specific Konami cart in slot 2 to enhance the primary Konami cart
- use emulation with tools (reverse, emulation speed, save states etc.)

..then agree.

But the way I finished Contra was: go to Hell Fall, climb towards the top, make sure you have a rear gun, keep shooting (put something heavy on the spacebar) and the next morning you have enough lives to finish the game twice in a row. Is that cheating?

Or: in Dragon Slayer 6, locate yourself on a safe spot where you'll only find dull slimes, have fighting 'n upgrades all on automatic and let it run for a few hours or more. Is this cheating?

When I was 11 or 12 or something..
I cannot for my life understand how I managed, seeing as I cant get past level 25 now (34 years old , and heavy usage of save-states to even get to that level now.. heh

Just played Hero to refresh my memory. After level 20 it goes to "PRO". Which indeed makes me wonder - guess my memory was quirky.
Not sure what you mean with the rest. Famicle Parodic 2 is pretty easy. Feedback gets hard but never impossible.

If it's linear and you only get a picture and some text after every [x] stages, then it's Grier's Quest *.

If it lets you select a 'world' and has the pointless selection stuff going on after every 6 stages, it's Grier's Quest Excellent.
