It's not nice what is happenning to Konamito... as somebody already said, probably Konami focused on his site because of its name and asked to delete all related stuff (not only roms) following some protocol.

We can do nothing about it because they have the right to do it... this is out of question. I guess everybody who has a site including rom dumps is aware that those kind of thinks could happen sooner or later.

Konamito should do like wordlofspectrum crew when a company asks for removing their games. Just remove the download links and ask for permission to keep the images. Needless to say that his site is much more than an old game download resource.

About using IPS patches or not... I talked about it with Mars some time ago. I know it requires A LITTLE BIT effort from users to look for the correct dump and apply the patch, but all this mess just has proved that it's the safest way for developers to release their work.

IMHO that situation doesn't kill MSX spirit at all, because MSX spirit is MUCH more than that... Konami helped to build it, but they can't destroy it Wink

We have in French a special expression for that :

Il faut se méfier de l'eau qui dort

what can be translated as

Beware of still waters

You're right; instead of saying 'MSX spirit is dead', it's probably better to say that Konami has killed some nice image we had from this company and his directors. Our opinion will not change about the talent of their coders and musicians, but the general image of the company is really altered and does no more correspond to the MSX spirit.

1. About Konamito: I never knew that Konamito distributing ROMS. I always used it as a news website. Very sad to what happened to them. But as many people said here, Konami is a copyright holder and they have legal right to do so, even some of us may not like it.

2. About IPS patches: When we release our IPS patches inside every release there is TERMS & CONDITIONS, such as: “These patches are free for non-commercial use. It is not allowed to redistribute a ROM file with either of these translations already applied to it or supply the patches together with the game ROMs. The contents of this archive should be distributed without any modifications to its contents.”
So, when msxblue.com distributing pre-patched roms with our translations, it shows that they don't care about what authors of release request. It is nice that they take all responsibility for release of pre-patched roms, but when some other site downloads them and re-distribute without any comments, then it looks like we released a translation as pre-patched rom file and not msxblue. So this can potentially put us under attack from copyright holders. On the other note I want to thank msxblue for collecting an amazing collection of demos, it definitely took a lot of time and dedication.

3. About Konami: I grow up with MSX, Spectrum & Amiga. But MSX & Konami made the biggest impact on me, this is why I dropped any Spectrum or Amiga developments long time ago and concentrate only on MSX. We had a very limited amount of MSX software in EX-USSR, this is why I was always dreaming about new screen 5 Konami games Wink After MSX I followed Metal Gear and Vampire Killer (Castlevania) series. They had many great instalments. But look what happening now with them? Latest Castlevania games out-sourced and move too far from it roots and most of them are horrible (especially the PSN version). Metal Gear losing interest in my eyes, because IMHO running for far too long. I always liked Metal Gear for great storyline, but lately they became so confused (MGS4, for example) that I think it's time to resurrect many of other great franchises (like Snatcher) or even create a new ones. But they only think about making $$$ so they will milk MGS until we become 80 years old and will be forced to play Metal Gear Solid XII: Return of the Undead Snakes Wink So I hope something will change and Konami start producing again some new and creative games.

In the same spirit: Konami could attack emulators because it can start their old ROM. Konami could attack too creators of IPS patch that modifies the original game. This is forbidden to modify an original without authorization.

Gdx, on what basis could they possibly attack emulators?

The same basis that for DS flash card adapters.
