larsthe18th: thank you, you are a life saver (or at least a progress saver!!) Smile
I've just beaten the first boss; it seams that the item name had a name that was too long or it auto progressed to the next text. Perhaps you guys could fix it? The G-P item has the Japanese - in the name. Really like this game and the translation so far, but the game is really quite hard.

Just so you know, the different areas in the game has different Nil limits, how much you can carry at once. If you carry too much Nil, the enemies in specific areas will stop dropping chests altogether, screwing you over, as you really need Lamp drops from the enemies in the Dark Caves (and one instance in Bizan Lab). This also means that enemies won't no longer drop stuff like healing items and blaster ammo, which are very useful. The limits are like so:

Bizan Lab = 1700-1800 Nil
Dark Caves = 2700-2800 Nil
Terona Lab = 5700-5800 Nil

Pixel is expecting players spend money as they can afford things. Wink

That's how the original game was programmed if there's chests on top of each others. They all get picked up simultaneously, and as there's no key prompts after opening each chest, the texts goes by very fast.

Hmm, the game crashes on the Philips NMS 8250/8245/8220, Sony HB-F700P/F9P/201P and National FS-1300 (and who knows which other machines). Perhaps good if this could also be fixed in the bugfix-version of the patch.

It works on a Philips VG 8020/8010, Panasonic FS-A1GT/FX/WX, Sony HB-F900/101/75P, Toshiba HX-10, and who knows which other machines Smile

I'm not sure what is going on, but I suspect some non-official ROM routine is called, which by accident works on the above machines but is not there (on the required location by the game) on the others.

This is a screenshot on a Sony HB-75P:

Looks like it doesn't like the normal Western character set.

When I try to type "Tim" for my name (just testing :)) it already accepts the SHIFT button as "Enter"... quite annoying. Can that also be fixed?

Heh, just when we thought having discovered all the bugs in M36 Planet, more gets discovered. Big smile Thanks for all the comments, guys. It really warms our hearts. Smile

// Just so you know, all of them should be also in the original Japanese ROM.

Yup... That was the same problem as I had on WebMSX. We were able to solve this by switching to MSX2+ Japan settings.

I think I found a bug with regards to restoring life to the G plankton. When I pay the amount to the clinic, the life of the G plankton isn't restored...

From Wyrdwad's playthrough:

"If you bring them to this clinic before their HP runs out, you can spend 120 Nil to heal them up to a max of 239. (I think the actual maximum HP for plankton is 250, but for some reason, the plankton clinic will never raise their HP higher than 239. Weird!)"

Again, default bugs of the game. Big smile The inns also doesn't work like you'd think:

"Later on, however, you'll start to notice that inns don't quite *fully* heal you. They will for a long time, but after you get your seventh energy tank and beyond, staying at an inn will only ever fill up your first 6 tanks. Some will even knock you back *down* to 6 tanks, which is just rude!"

So yes, we're aware of these things. Everything we've discovered is included in the walkthrough. The main objective of our translation project was to translate the game, not fix its many bugs. Wink We only bothered with the game-breaking ones, which Manuel Pazos helped with.

Seems MP83 addressed most issues so far, so I'll field this one. Wink

The Giuth Plankter item was listed as just G-P in the Japanese version of the game as well (similarly, the Zeuda Plankter later in the game is just listed as Z-P), and this was retained for the translated version. It's weird naming, but it gets the job done!

Also, regarding the crashes on certain hardware, have you tried playing the Japanese rom on that hardware as well? In WebMSX, the same issues were present in the Japanese rom on that hardware, suggesting the game itself has always been kind of unstable. Which... wouldn't be very surprising, given all the bugs that are present too. Wink

It's actually kind of weird how buggy the game is, considering how polished Pixel's earlier MSX title "Zeta-2000" is. I suspect M36 may have been quite rushed, as it was Pixel's final MSX game, and they weren't doing particularly well as a company during its development. Which is a shame, as it really was their most ambitious and interesting game of the bunch, I think, and it was mostly pretty successful at the things it attempted to do.

@MP83: I brought them back with just 9 or so left. When I healed the plankton, nothing was restored. I walked on through the village and then it ran out to 0.

@wyrdwad: I ment that the chouon was used in the name instead of the -. I just thought to mention it, in case that was useful. I understand that you used the short names for these items.

Just before you see the item name of the G-Z you see the item name as it drops and that one auto progressed to the next one. But that could have been by design.
