I really don't know what else to try, I have tested 3 different CFs (they are really hard to find these days) and I have the same problem.
What firmware version does your Carnivore2 have?
Hi, it's 2.40
You need v2.50 for the CF cards' compatibility fix.
First just try using the default config entry in the bootmenu, no need to configure multislot. If that does not work you can try to boot into DOS using disk drive and use C2MAN to create a new config entry, just add the IDE without anything else. Save the config with just the name IDE and try to boot this config (select it in the menu and use space to start it). In my experience this allows fdisk to find the CF where it won’t work in default configuration.
Hi, I tried another CF and finally it worked, Carnivore 2 surely is super picky with his supports. Once I formatted the new CF and configured it with the files provided by Alexey, it started immediately on the first attempt. While I'm at it I'd like to ask another question: I copied Nextor and Sofarun, I put my fave games as zipped archives and I'm doing some testing, since from what I've read on the forum trying to understand as much as possible, it's the ideal solution to run roms without flashing them one at a time in Carnivore's memory. There are some that don't seem to work despite being modest in their demands, such as Buramaru Pants (yeah, I've got some peculiar tastes); could you give me some advice on possible configurations to start experimenting with the Carnivore 2/Sofarun pair? Thanks for your patience.
If something doesn't work on Carnivore2, feel free to send me the ROM and I will make the RCP file for you.
With v2.50 firmware Carnivore2 is less demanding for CF cards, so update your cartridge's firmware for the best experience.
there's another thing I didn't quite understand: I discovered the presets, I guessed that by putting rom and preset with the same name in the same folder and launching c2man, the programme should automatically detect the preset and apply it when flashing. So far so good, but is this the only way? I mean, is it possible to launch these roms from sofarun with appropriate configurations or is using the flash rom + preset combination the only way with Carnivore 2?
Thank you very much for your answers Alexey, I am mortally sorry to ask all these questions, but I would really like to understand more about Carnivore2. Really thank you so much for your patience.
SofaRun cannot use the preset files. SofaRun is configurable on a per game basis but it can be tricky to get certain games to run if at all. Also settings that work on C2 won’t necessarily work on MFR or GR8NET. Also settings that work on 1 machine won’t necessarily work on another (MSX is a standard but each machine is set up slightly different). It may be an option for you to add C2RAMLDR into SofaRun (through SR.INI), it should be able to use the presets (but I have not tested).
My 8250 starts skipping the boot menu. I didn't change any settings. I erased Flashrom and installed all the BIOS. So I had a clean cartridge. So if I boot up I get the bootmenu with a empty directory list. When I flash my first rom I get the two entries: Defconfig and in my case Sofarom1 (that's if I check it C2MAN). After this however if I boot up the MSX skips the bootmenu all together and goes straight to the CF card. Anybody have an idea what's causing this?
