The 2.4g 8Bitdo is indeed a very fine joystick, very little lag too. I went for the Joyzz one because I already had an old 8Bitdo for my Reteopie, but quality seemed poor compared to the Joyzz one.

Moral of story is Bluetooth joysticks sucks for old consoles, when you have to rely on pixel accurate jumps on games and such.

I use a Retro Receiver SNES with a JoySNES and an original SNES controller or sometime a PS3 controller for the analog stick. I not noticed lag but I am not an expert gamer.

I got the bluetooth receiver today:
https://www.8bitdo.com/retro-receiver-genesis-mega-drive/

And did some testing with some controllers i have here (and joy mega adapter of course). I tested the receiver on an nms8245 and a Sanyo PHC-35J MSX 2+ and the receiver works great on both machines.

PS4 controller: works using the connect buttons on both receiver and controller
PS3 controller: works but is a hassle. You have to connect both controller and receiver to the pc and download a program
Xbox one controller: works using the connect buttons on both receiver and controller
Xbox 360 controller: does NOT work, not supported.
Nintendo switch joycon: works using the connect buttons on both receiver and controller
Nintendo switch pro controller: works using the connect buttons on both receiver and controller
Nintendo Wii controllers: works using the connect buttons on both receiver and controller

Since i don't have an Xbox one and that controller is a loaner i'll stick to with ps4 controller :)
Really nice gadget imo.

In Japan, some hobbyist modifies the Mega Drive receivers by hand to meet the MSX standard (think e.g. rewiring GND to pin 9). He occasionally sells them on Mercari.

I bought one of these. It works perfectly. From the outside, it is hard to tell the receiver was modded.

You pay a premium, but you do get a nice MSX sticker to ease the pain ;).

It's not the scruple that chokes him to resell this adapter at $20 more than 4 times its price for just having made a minor change and paste a sticker.

Me too (Retro Receiver for SNES/SFC + JoySNES + PS3 controller) and all that cost me less than the Retro Receiver 8bitDo Megadrive alone modified by "VeganFreeman".

I use 8BitDo receivers with cord-type JoyMega from the MSX Calamar shop now, it feels a lot less brittle and breakable than the PCB-type adapter when projecting from the port on the MSX. Also it allows easy positioning of the receiver where I can press the pairing button without applying extra force to a PCB or to the MSX. These adapters seem to still be available though Google doesn't find them very well: http://www.msxcalamar.com/catalog/index.php?id_product=31&co...

For controllers I prefer 8BitDo mod kits installed in Japanese 6-button Mega Drve controller shells. I'm not noticing any lag, but I'm also not good enough at these games to tell the difference (I tried wired controllers too.)

I also previously used Joyzz (one in the original controller shell, another transplanted in a sacrificed and heavily modified Japanese 6-button Mega Drive controller shell) and it also works well the same way. Likewise i previously used PCB-type JoyMega and those work fine too, they just feel a bit too breakable to me, so usually I would attach them at the end of a Mega Drive controller extension cable for better strain relief

Unlike the PS4 controller, the Playstation 5 Dual sense controller is completely haywire via JoyMega + 8bitdo. Both the lever and buttons are random and intermittent. I hope it can be mapped by itself to fix.
