Further testing. Expansion slot + SCC + FM PAC; PSG split is same as SCC cartridge only. All FM sounds are from the R.
Expansion slot + SCC + NMS1205 with MSX AUDIO bios 1.3b; CPC-400 hangs while booting. Note: MSX AUDIO hangs in an expanded slot hangs even without SCC.
Note 2: Snatcher hangs if the SCC+ is in an expanded slot.

More strange things; right now I am hearing PSG channel 1 from the L and 2 & 3 from the R (opposite of what I reported with SCC an hour earlier) WITHOUT the SCC cartridge. Is something involatile remaining at the RAM?

Very weird behaviour! At times like these you wish a service manual was available Smile.

The DAEWOO 400/400S a service manual mentions the F7H port, the two least significant bits of which control the audio output R (bit0) and L (bit1). Apparently this applies to the DAEWOO 400S model since the port is optional.

F7H W bØ: audio R (“0" Back Side mixing on)
         W b1: audio L (“0" Back Side mixing on)

Takamichi, you use the SCART or the RCA output from the back side?

I think this is just a software issue.

SCC or FM PAC sound passes through the pin 49 of cartridge port. So normally whatever the sound extension, the sound is reproduced in the same way with or without Expansion slot.

Now PSG channel 1 and everything non-PSG comes from the R and PSG channel 2&3 comes from the L. Either I crashed something permanently or it's the normal behavior and the initial condition I was hearing everything from the R was faulty. I removed then put back the backup battery to restore the default but it didn't change anything.

My description so far are when using the RCA output. With RGB21, things are more serious. PSG channel 1 still comes from the R though I cannot hear PSG channel 2&3 at all. When I play A1 Spirit I hear exactly same sound (presumably both SCC and PSG) from both R and L, and that sound lacks the bassline (probably PSG channel 2/3). I can hear the bassline when the MONO/STEREO switch is at MONO.
If any CPC-400 owner is reading this, please submit your result.

I have the impression that Grauw and gdx were too fast to change the wiki. They should at least have waited for an answer from a Korean user. The infos I had about the stereo PSG of these machines came from Atarulum, a Korean MSX fan living in Japan.

Let’s see what more comes up, we can always change it again. I think any user who owns this machine can confirm its stereo function, their nationality does not matter. It’s also no good to have incorrect info on the wiki, like the corrections I made about the stereo of National and Sony computers. Given that those were wrong, I took the Daewoo stereo claims with a grain of salt as well. Also, I posted about the topic (though not Daewoo specifically) in April this year in the wiki editing thread, and did not get much response then, so I think I waited quite long overall. Maybe a deletion is needed to push discussion into action Smile.

What info exactly did you get from Atarulum?

The F7H port is a standard port for superimpose unit A/V control btw.

Only that the PSG sound was stereo.

Don't forget that many CPC-400/400S were never fully tested before releasing on the market, so I would not be surprised that some flaws explain the strange and incoherent behavior of the PSG sound on these machines. Maybe the using of some cartridges with SCC can provoke a temporary change (just a guessing) ....

Take a look on this Twitter thread (not difficult to find with Googe btw!) - strange stereo PSG is confirmed:
https://twitter.com/twASTERiS/status/1109163261398704128

Google translation:

First of all, due to the strange stereo separation of the X2, there is a problem that the sound of the B and C channels is lower than that of the A channel when replacing the YM2149. -> It is possible to solve it in a hurry by simply combining all of A, B, and C. Later, it would be better to reconfigure the stereo side with the circuit of the Pioneer PX-7.

And in the X2, if you insert YM2149 instead of AY-3-8910, the sound is significantly reduced. By putting the two together and mixing them with appropriate resistance, you can definitely hear music of different characteristics.

RCAVictorCo quickly replied to me and confirmed that the PSG is stereo and configured Left Right Right.
