Today I tried my original Pennant Race 2 cartridge in my SM-X and it behaved the same as OeiOeiVogeltje described. The game starts, but after selecting a stadium it crashes. Same thing happens on my OCM with KdL 3.7.1 firmware, so it's not an SM-X bug, but maybe a firmware bug. (However, what maybe is an SM-X bug, is that the SCC sound output from the cartridge slot isn't routed to the analoge audio minijack output, but it is on the OCM)

But it keeps getting stranger: I also tried a ROM image from the MCCM Millennium CD and that version plays correctly on the SM-X and on the OCM...

been filding a bit more with the sm-x and still my megaflashrom SCC/SD doesnt do anything
i need to press the Printscreen key to get my monitor to display anything with my Carnivore2
original manbow 2 cartridge produces a black sscreen
and so far i have not been able to run any game with Sofarun although i am pretty sure its a simple setting i have not found yet

I haven't got the right measuring tools here to say anything conclusive, but I checked my OCM without and with an MFRSCCSD. The adapter drew .5 watts extra from the wall socket with the MFR inserted. This not original adapter is 5V/2.5A and iirc this is what the OCM needs (could be 2A as well). Weird stuff happens with too little amps. The original adapter died and generated too little amps. Is your adapter okay?
A power test can simply be done with a Philips Music Module inserted. That thing lets the adapter draw 2 watts from the wall socket. So if your SM-X boots with that cartridge inserted your adapter power can't be the issue.

If you run into me on IRC I might have a sofarun solution.

i found out why sofarun wouldnt do it for me
i had the machine setting on "msx2+" while on "Default" would actually work better.

I think that there were some versions of SMX that do not mix the slot audio with the analog output, mine is a beta one still named MSX-SM and it routes the audio. Avkooi told a few posts above that his unit does not mix it. Probably you should talk to Victor Trucco to know if that is expected or not.
